Muse drops third single from upcoming album – How good is ‘Cryogen’?

Muse has consistently changed their sound over the years, and that’s one of their strengths. They aren’t afraid to experiment, even if some fans don’t immediately embrace the new direction. Ultimately, Muse aims to push boundaries, both for themselves and their audience.

A recurring theme in their music is a futuristic sound, full of energy and excitement, though it doesn’t always quite deliver on its promise. They can lean towards overly complex arrangements, but it feels artificial at times. Despite this, their work is still better than most music out there.

With “Cryogen,” the third single from their upcoming album The Wow! Signal (due June 26th), the band hopes to generate excitement and convince listeners to check out the full record. Does this new song give a good enough taste to make people want to hear the whole album?

Muse drop “Cryogen,” but is it worth your time?

The band has been refining the song by playing it live, and Muse is known for its polished studio recordings. We’re confident the songs will sound great, and “Cryogen” is no exception.

This song immediately showcases the band’s signature sound, reminding listeners of their roots. It starts with a sparkling guitar and solid bassline, then powerfully builds to an explosive chorus. Fans of their 2001 album, Origin of Symmetry, will definitely appreciate this track – and that’s a good thing!

The song transitions into a calmer, more deliberate section with two verses. While these verses aren’t unpleasant, they feel like a build-up to something bigger, like anticipation before entering a vibrant space. The chorus is where the song really shines, but the themes explored in the verses are fairly familiar.

Around the four-minute mark, the song pauses briefly, feeling a bit drawn out, but then builds into a sound reminiscent of “Knights of Cydonia.” While “Cryogen” doesn’t quite reach the same heights, the effort is admirable and makes the song enjoyable. You’ll likely find it’s worth your time.

You’ll have opportunities to see the band perform this song live. Here’s the schedule for Muse’s North American concerts in the summer of 2026.
