Zara Larsson recalls being cut off by all her friends aged 16 after she was caught kissing her best pal’s boyfriend

Zara Larsson remembers being completely ostracized by her friend group when she was sixteen. She was caught kissing her best friend’s boyfriend, and her friends all stopped talking to her because of it.

The 28-year-old Swedish singer, who is currently dating Lamin Holmén, told Alex Cooper on her Call Her Daddy podcast that she acted badly towards a friend after getting very drunk on New Year’s Eve.

She confessed that even though her friend’s boyfriend was flirting with her throughout the evening, she was actually more attracted to his friend.

She admitted to sharing a quick kiss, thinking they were alone. She explained that she was getting her jacket downstairs when he started kissing her, and everyone else was occupied elsewhere.

‘And I just kissed him back because I was messy like that. And I was 16 and really drunk.

The really frustrating part is that the girl whose house we were at filmed the whole thing without me knowing. Before I could even explain what happened to my friend the next day, she’d already received the video.

That situation was a real disaster. Honestly, I never had strong feelings for him – it was just a mistake. But when she found out, she ended things with me, and all our friends did too. I felt completely lost and worthless.

Zara is famous for her uplifting songs and cheerful personality, but she’s also known for being direct and isn’t afraid to honestly share her thoughts about other celebrities.

She’s faced criticism from Taylor Swift and her fans – known as Swifties – for the second time this month, after making comments perceived as critical of them.

Zara explained that she isn’t interested in focusing on chart positions, believing most people don’t pay attention to them anymore, with the notable exception of Taylor Swift’s dedicated fanbase, who quickly voiced their disagreement.

Zara often sparks conversation with her direct and honest way of speaking, openly sharing her thoughts on politics, current events, and even other famous people without holding back.

Zara recently sparked controversy with Taylor Swift after telling The Guardian she wasn’t interested in chasing chart success. She explained that only people within the music industry, and potentially Taylor Swift’s fans, still pay attention to chart rankings.

The comment quickly went viral on social media, and fans created a humorous, fabricated post supposedly from Taylor saying simply, ‘Honestly just… disappointed.’ However, Taylor hadn’t actually publicly reacted to the comment at all.

Despite this, Taylor Swift’s fans quickly responded on social media, with many commenting things like, ‘Zara Larsson may have just ruined her career. That was a bad move, and completely unnecessary to attack Taylor.’

She’s trying to stay relevant by criticizing Taylor Swift. It’s hard to understand why anyone pays attention to @zaralarsson.

I really don’t understand why she felt the need to bring that person’s name into it. What was the point? It seems like she was just trying to get attention.

It’s pretty clear Zara is jealous of Taylor. She presents herself as aware and insightful, but she can’t seem to acknowledge what’s probably the real reason for her feelings, and doesn’t seem capable of looking inward to understand her own motivations.

Someone asked what Taylor Swift did to upset Zara Larsson, leading to a seemingly critical reaction. Zara Larsson then responded, pointing out the irony of Taylor Swift criticizing anyone’s numbers given that Zara felt she spent most of her career struggling to gain traction and desperately seeking success.

Zara explained her previous statements after receiving criticism from Taylor Swift’s fans, posting a clarification on her Instagram Story.

She explained that she told The Guardian nobody really pays attention to music charts except those within the music industry and fans of Taylor Swift – pointing out that Taylor Swift is uniquely focused on chart performance.

She’s truly exceptional at what she does, and it’s widely recognized. People are misunderstanding the situation. And just so you know, I really do care! I’m planning to release at least two different cover options for the physical version of my next project, after ‘Midnight Sun’.

I recently realized I’m having a moment where my music feels culturally relevant, which is new for me. It’s frustrating though, because I don’t have the power to make songs hit the top of the charts! But I truly believe an artist can be incredible without topping the charts, and I don’t think fans should equate artistic merit with chart success.

I really want ‘Midnight Sun’ to be ranked number one! Please, please make it happen! That would be amazing!
