Kate Thornton reveals she was rushed to hospital after suffering a nasty accident while shopping in the bread aisle at Tesco Express

Kate Thornton shared that she fractured her shoulder in an accident while shopping in a surprising location.

The 53-year-old former X Factor host revealed she was injured while shopping for bread at her local Tesco Express.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE what Kate went through! She actually broke her shoulder and needed stitches on her lip! Can you imagine?! And even with all that, she STILL managed to record her podcast! It was apparently ‘more challenging,’ but honestly, she’s a superhero. I’m so impressed she pushed through, even injured like that! I’m seriously worried about her, but so proud she’s such a trooper.

Kate, who also hosts a show on Greatest Hits Radio, shared details about the incident on the latest episode of her podcast, White Wine Question Time.

She explained that she’d broken her shoulder, tripping and falling over her own feet. It wasn’t a glamorous accident, she added – just a simple stumble.

I was on my way to Tesco Express to buy bread when I tripped and fell, badly injuring my shoulder and lips – I actually needed stitches for my lips.

Kate launched her show, White Wine Question Time, in 2019. Some of the personalities who’ve appeared on it include Will Best, Helen Skelton, Angela Rippon, and Penny Lancaster.

Kate revealed in January that she was deeply frightened after her stalker, who sent her over 6,000 unwanted text messages, was released from court, even though his behavior had been persistent and obsessive.

James McCamley, a 53-year-old man from Glasgow, harassed radio presenter Jackie Brambles, 52, and her coworker Mary Mandefield for five months.

In a statement to the police, Kate explained that she’s afraid to use public transportation at night and hopes the harassment will end.

It makes me feel much more exposed and anxious, and I constantly worry about making the wrong choices throughout the day.

‘Obviously he’s unwell, but it does impact my life.’

The court heard that both women asked for restraining orders because they were extremely anxious and upset by the large number of messages the radio station was receiving, many of which were sexually explicit.

The father of four received a one-year community service sentence at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court in North London.

He avoided further prison time because he’d already spent six weeks in jail at HMP Pentonville while awaiting trial, effectively serving any sentence he would have received.

Kate originally hosted the first seasons of The X Factor when it began on ITV in 2004, but after hosting for two years, Simon Cowell decided to bring in Dermot O’Leary as the new host.

The radio personality has talked before about how much it hurt to be fired from the show, explaining she felt humiliated because Simon didn’t communicate honestly with her.

In 2020, Kate explained that Simon had gone back on his promise to renew her contract.

I saw it on the ten o’clock news, and it was really embarrassing and upsetting. It stung even more to find out someone I thought was a friend hadn’t been honest with me.

After believing Simon fired her for publicity, Kate declared in 2016 that she would cut him out of her life completely.

She started her career as an entertainment journalist, contributing to publications like the Sunday Times and Marie Claire. Later, she covered major news stories, including the passing of Princess Diana.

Kate became a TV presenter and was a main host on ITV’s Loose Women from 2009 to 2011. She has also occasionally presented This Morning.

She started working at Greatest Hits Radio in 2022, hosting the Sunday show. Starting November 11, 2024, she also began presenting the weekday afternoon program.
