Victoria Beckham posted some candid photos from her Time100 event in New York to Instagram on Wednesday.
Despite recently losing a legal case over a trademark to Vera Bradley, the 52-year-old fashion designer seemed cheerful as she exited the Lincoln Center.
Last year, the fashion designer’s lawyers tried to prevent the brand from using the letters ‘VB’.
Vera Bradley is an American company that designs and sells luggage and handbags, earning around $250 million annually. It was started in 1982 by Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia R. Miller.
I’ve been following the legal side of the Victoria Beckham brand for a while now, and it was interesting to see Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp representing them. Their lawyer, Eleanor Lackman, made a really key point – everyone around the world instantly recognizes ‘VB’ as Victoria Beckham, which is central to their brand identity. It’s a simple but powerful argument, and I think it really highlights how well-known she is.
There was concern that customers of Vera Bradley might assume Victoria and her team had created the designs, since her initials are used as the logo for her beauty line.
But after asking for more time to put their case together, it has now been dropped.
The US Patent and Trademark Office reported that Victoria Beckham Limited has withdrawn its request for more time to formally oppose a trademark. According to The Sun, the company is no longer pursuing the opposition at this time.
‘In view thereof, the relinquishment releases the record of application for further processing.’
Daily Mail has contacted Victoria’s representatives for comment.
Victoria Beckham recently lost a trademark dispute with a beauty company owned by a Norwegian supermodel. The court ruled that she wasn’t well-known enough in Norway to successfully claim the trademark.
The fashion designer stated that Vendela Kirsebom’s Vendela Beauty used a logo very similar to her own, potentially misleading customers.
Victoria and her team shared sales data, press coverage, and their Instagram follower count to demonstrate their activity in the country.
The court decided the Beckham brand couldn’t prove how many of its followers in Norway were new customers, as the sales data they presented covered all of Scandinavia, not just Norway.
Vendela, the founder of a skincare and makeup company, originally applied to trademark her brand in 2021 – several years before Victoria filed an opposition.
Victoria shared some behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram as she prepared to speak at the TIME100 Summit.
Victoria Beckham, known as Posh, displayed her elegant fashion sense while posing for photos in a midi dress from her own clothing line.
She boosted her height with contrasting pink heels and wore her long dark tresses in loose waves.
Victoria was also seen posing with the CEO of TIME Jessica Sibley, who wore a silk white suit.
Singer Hilary Duff was also in attendance and cut a stylish figure in a light grey jumpsuit.
