First trailer lands for “perfect” Looney Tunes movie 3 years after its release was scrapped

After Warner Bros. decided not to release the Looney Tunes film Coyote vs. Acme nearly three years ago, the first trailer has now been unveiled.

John Cena’s new movie, which combines live action with animation, was saved from being cancelled thanks to Ketchup Entertainment – the same company that previously released the Porky Pig and Daffy Duck film, The Day the Earth Blew Up.

The new trailer for Ketchup is cleverly presented as if Warner Bros. is trying to hide the film from audiences, playing on the idea that Ketchup is owned by their fictional competitor, Acme Corporation. It’s a really smart approach.

The trailer reveals the movie’s storyline: Wile E. Coyote partners with a down-on-his-luck lawyer, played by Will Forte, to sue Acme because their products keep failing him.

The group is joined by Lana Condor’s character, but they face opposition from John Cena, who plays a ruthless Acme lawyer. He’s just as comfortable using his fists as he is legal tactics to win.

The movie features lots of silly, over-the-top cartoon gags and includes beloved Looney Tunes characters like Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety, and even a shadowy glimpse of Bugs Bunny.

James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and Superman, contributed to the story, and Dave Green, who directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, directed the film.

Ketchup Entertainment CEO Gareth West announced they’d reached an agreement with Warner Bros Pictures to distribute the film globally, confirming it had been rescued.

Coyote vs Acme beautifully combines the charm of classic Looney Tunes with a fresh, contemporary story. It’s a film that should appeal to both those who grew up with the characters and those discovering them for the first time.

It’s interesting to note that before Ketchup Entertainment partnered with Warner Bros. to distribute the film, both Paramount and Netflix were also interested in acquiring the rights. In fact, both companies recently made bids to buy Warner Bros. outright, and Paramount currently seems likely to succeed, despite significant opposition to a potential merger.

The movie Coyote vs. Acme will hit US theaters on August 28th. A release date for the UK hasn’t been announced yet.
