By incorporating post-release content, Elden Ring Nightreign maintains an edge over its competitors thanks to its live-service approach, which includes updated iterations of challenging boss battles like the Everdark Sovereign Darkdrift Knight.
After you’ve triumphed over him, the next challenge lies with the Sentient Pest. Although I find this Nightlord to be the simplest among the others, the Everdark Sovereign variation certainly brings a unique twist to the battle experience.
However, if there are a few who found Nightlord to be bothersome, rest assured, as my strategy guide for the Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest in Elden Ring, titled “Nightreign,” will make quick work of this battle for you and your teammates.
Recommended Team Compositions

In this upcoming battle, you’ll be facing not just two, but three distinct opponents. To maximize your chances of success, it’s essential to assemble a team composition that can effectively exploit their vulnerabilities. Based on my personal testing, these characters appear to be the best options for the task at hand.
- Ironeye: A character who I think is tailor-made for this fight with his ranged attacks that are especially viable against the moth creature (Gnoster). You can also obtain bows that can roll with the fire element affinity, plus his skill can be used as an evasive maneuver with I-frames, and the ultimate art can be a great way to stun bosses briefly.
- Raider: You’ll want him head-on against the Scorpion (Faurtis) as a good Raider can tank attacks easily thanks to his character skill. With the proper relic setup, he can dish out a staggering amount of damage. In the chance that you don’t get a fire weapon, you can opt for powerstancing to break its stance and stagger it.
As a fan, I’ve given this some serious thought – I’d really love to see another character join the fray instead of the two mentioned earlier, or even Wylder, who could bring a nice balance to the fight with his melee skills. With the other two melee characters upfront and Ironeye providing support from behind, it would make for an exciting matchup!
Key Differences With Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest

Just like in past iterations of the Everdark Sovereign series featuring the Nightlords, the latest addition Sentient Pest brings numerous modifications. One significant alteration that stands out is the introduction of an extra boss battle for players to conquer.
Even though there’s an additional creature joining our original pair, I’ve highlighted the key distinctions you should consider as you prepare for this battle.
- Both Gnoster and Faurtis will start in their team-up phase, but have a relatively low health pool here.
- Once you defeat them, ‘Animus, Ascendant Light’ will appear as the third boss and revive the other two bosses to half HP.
- Animus can reanimate and possess the bodies of the other bosses throughout the fight if they’re defeated again. The latter action sacrifices a bit of HP for Animus.
- A bunch of new AOE attacks, especially Animus’ light ray barrages, are present throughout.
Regarding the persisting issues, it would be advantageous for you to carry weapons imbued with a fire element as this will allow for maximum damage output. Since points of interest associated with that attribute are random, I’d advise equipping an item in your relic rites that can provide such an affinity on your initial weapon.
Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest Moveset

Before I delve into discussing our tactic against the upgraded Nightlord, it’s crucial that you are familiarized with the primary attacks of these bosses, particularly during their Animus phase, and how they acquire an array of new abilities by transforming, which significantly alters their attack patterns.
In this stage, I’ll focus on detailing the fresh assaults of both bosses and the ones originating from Animus itself. As for the previous team-up phase, I assume everyone is already well-versed in it by now.
Moveset | Boss | Description |
---|---|---|
Charging Pounce | Faurtis | An Animus-possessed Faurtis will charge head-on at a player. It’s your typical charge-in attack from bosses, which can be telegraphed and evaded easily. |
Frontal Spiked Stomp | Faurtis | Another enhanced Faurtis attack, where it will lift its frontal legs to slam the ground with an AOE blast wave. In this possessed version, the stomp will be followed up by red fissure explosions, which you can avoid by promptly jumping over them. |
Side Spiked Stomp | Faurtis | Similar to the previous move, the Animus-possessed Faurtis will lift a side of his body to unleash another blast wave AOE on the ground with explosions following. Dodge the stomp and preferably jump over the explosions. |
Claw Slam | Faurtis | Not a particularly dangerous move, but when at close range, Faurtis will slam down on you with both claws— it can be dodged easily. |
Frenzy Slams | Faurtis | The most devastating move from a possessed Faurtis. It will pound the ground erratically around it, with those AOE spike explosions from the waves. To evade this, I strongly suggest quickly getting away, as it emits a shriek to signal this attack. |
Claw Pound Explosion | Faurtis | Lastly, this attack from Faurtis involves it slamming the ground three times in a row, with the third strike being followed by a shriek and the AOE explosion wave. |
Beam Rain | Gnoster | An Animus-possessed Gnoster will fly across the air and spontaneously launch red lasers for a few seconds. Evading these projectiles can be tricky, so I recommend keeping an eye out whenever it’s prepared to launch this attack. |
Grab Attack | Gnoster | This enhanced variant of Gnoster’s usual grab attack will involve it swaying to the side a couple of times before ultimately closing in and latching itself onto you. |
Orbital Beams From Hell | Animus | Midway through the fight, Animus itself can launch an endless barrage of orbital beams that will continuously damage you and anyone caught in them. It’s highly advised that you sprint and evade their relentless damage as much as possible. |
How To Beat Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest

In an effort to make things concise and engaging, I’ll share the strategy for tackling Gnoster without dwelling too much on his powerful AOE attacks or the need for fire weaknesses or strategic team setup. Here’s how we can approach this battle effectively.
To beat Gnoster quickly, it’s important to understand his attack patterns and have a well-prepared team. However, I won’t focus on that here; instead, let me share the strategy for defeating him efficiently.
After defeating Faurtis and Gnoster, Animus will resurrect them with around half their original health. As soon as you notice Faurtis starting to rise, we should begin attacking immediately since this will be our main priority during the battle.

I want to make something clear: Our ultimate objective is to vanquish Animus. This action will cause the other two adversaries to fall as well, regardless of their health levels. However, considering Gnoster’s pesky aerial nature, it would be wise to focus our efforts on defeating Faurtis first.
If a boss is killed, Animus will use some of its own health to resurrect that character and control them again. Faurtis has multiple attack types, as previously discussed. Be prepared to dodge effectively because his ground wave explosion attacks can cause significant damage, especially on fragile characters like Duchess or Revenant.

The primary approach involves both players concentrating their assaults on Faurtis. Meanwhile, a character like Ironeye can divert Gnoster’s attention from the side, as his projectiles can be quite inconvenient for the other two characters to handle.
An adept Iron-eye player (or any ranged Nightfarer) can quickly attract enemies’ attention and even defeat Gnoster alone, making the battle much simpler as it is likely that Animus will focus on reviving Faurtis instead, leaving Gnoster defeated – essentially turning this boss fight into a leisurely stroll.
Damaging the possessed boss simultaneously hurts both it and Animus. If you consistently attack Faurtis, you can keep a significant advantage in the battle, preventing Animus from launching its orbital ray attacks.

Apart from this, the lethal orbital laser assault from Animus is precisely as I described: it has the potential to end your life in an instant unless you possess a substantial health reserve. To prevent any team losses, consider duplicating one or two Wending Grace items in your inventory.

To vanquish the Everdark Sovereign variant of the Sentient Pest, you’ll earn 25 Sovereign Sigils for your initial victory. Additionally, the Dark Night of the Wise Relic will become accessible in the Collector Signboard shop for acquisition. This is an excellent relic that particularly benefits Mage characters such as Recluse.
