Jurassic World Rebirth: The Surprising Survival of a Beloved Character

The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for Jurassic World Rebirth

In the movie “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, one of its principal characters was almost written out, but thankfully, the filmmakers altered this decision towards the end of production. After the occurrences depicted in Chris Pratt’s “Jurassic World”, the latest installment introduces a fresh and captivating group of characters for this universe, including Dr. Henry Loomis, played by Jonathan Bailey, and Zora Bennett, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.

In the latest Jurassic film, the consequences are significant, and several prominent characters meet their end. These deaths serve to heighten the tension and increase the stakes of the movie. The demise of LeClerc, who sacrifices himself to save the heroes from a Quetzalcoatlus, brings about a palpable sense of sorrow. Similarly, the gruesome fate of the antagonist Krebs at the jaws of the D-Rex elicits deep emotions.

Even though all deaths may not be equally significant, it’s not necessary that every character in the movie meets their end. With the optimistic finale of Rebirth, humanity stands on the brink of a promising future as this novel DNA becomes globally accessible. For this ending to carry impact, some cherished characters should remain alive.

Kincaid Easily Became One Of The Best Jurassic World Rebirth Characters

His Backstory & Care For His Team Made Him Very Likable

One of the standout new characters in the latest Jurassic movie is Duncan Kincaid, portrayed by Mahershala Ali. With an initial appearance that seems more about doubling his income with a clever plan, Kincaid later displays remarkable kindness and thoughtfulness. He’s always mindful of his team and carries a poignantly sad past.

It appears that Zora queries Kincaid regarding his partner, and though the details are somewhat obscure, it’s a sorrowful tale. It seems they suffered the loss of their child, which drove them apart. In the movie, this heartache stirs up a deep compassion in Kincaid for children, prompting him to take extraordinary measures to protect the Delgado siblings.

Jurassic World Rebirth’s Original Script Had Duncan Kincaid Get Killed

The Studio Was Surprisingly Right

In the movie’s climactic moments, Kincaid’s actions come perilously close to costing him his life. On the boat, with the towering, monstrous D-Rex looming overhead, Kincaid ignites a flare to divert the fearsome mutated dinosaur. He is pursued into the woods, and the sequence unfolds suggesting that Kincaid might become the creature’s next meal before abruptly ending.

In my role as a movie critic, I had the opportunity to gain insights from Director Gareth Evans during his interview with Liam Crowley at ScreenRant. Originally, it was planned for Kincaid’s character to meet an untimely end in one particular scene. However, the studio felt that this might not be the most favorable choice. Consequently, they asked for an alternative ending where Kincaid survives, which was filmed but ultimately not included in the final version of Jurassic World.

During the filmmaking process, a small thought nudged me. It was as if saying, “Alright, given that the character survives, I’ll carry this consequence throughout my life… I want this outcome to be excellent, refined, and elegant. So, I began contemplating, ‘How could we tell this story in a compelling way?’ As I visualized it, I found myself liking the idea.

It’s A Relief That Kincaid Survived In Jurassic World Rebirth

He Deserves To Come Back For A Possible Sequel

Thankfully, the final scene of the movie underwent an improvement. In it, Kincaid can be spotted setting off flares on the shoreline, prompting the entire group to turn back and save him. They manage to flee together into the horizon, ensuring Kincaid’s survival for another day. This decision proved beneficial for the film, as elaborated by Evans:

We subtly set up his demise, making it seem as if he would perish. This was done intentionally through the script, filming, and direction, which may lead the audience to believe he’s going to die… Because we incorporated those familiar farewell scenes, they signal that he won’t return. We chose to keep these in despite knowing he would survive, and I worried it might appear as a betrayal.

Mahershala Ali’s fame is immense, and his character might play a significant role in the future installments of the Jurassic series. If the earnings from “Rebirth” are impressive, it’s highly likely that the production company will create another film in the franchise. In other words, Kincaid could continue to be a crucial member of the extended cast across several sequels.

Kincaid should not have perished, instead it’s more beneficial that he lived through the movie’s events. Ali, one of the finest actors of his era, adds significant value to the cast of “Jurassic World: Rebirth”. Given another sequel, it seems probable that he will rejoin the cast.
