Netflix reveals release date for highly anticipated Heartstopper film – almost two years on from third series

Netflix announced that the long-awaited Heartstopper movie will be released soon, nearly two years after the third season premiered on the service.

The story, inspired by Alice Oseman’s graphic novel, centers on Nick and Charlie, two teenage boys who fall in love.

The show debuted on Netflix in April 2022 – with the third series launching in October 2024.

The story will end with a final movie, Heartstopper Forever, which was announced last year.

It will officially be landing on Netflix on July 17, while directed by Wash Westmoreland.

Nick and Charlie are very close, but face challenges as Nick gets ready for college and Charlie becomes more independent. They start to feel the strain of being in a long-distance relationship.

I’m seeing a lot of couples hitting a rough patch right now – those nagging doubts can really test a relationship. It’s tough, but it’s also a really common part of life. And it’s not just romantic love; friendships are being tested too as we all figure out how to grow up and move forward, which often means accepting change and letting go of what was. It’s a bittersweet time, but ultimately a natural part of life’s journey.

‘Can first loves really last forever?’

Kit Connor and Joe Locke are returning to reprise their roles as Nick and Charlie.

The cast also includes William Gao as Tao Xu, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, and Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson.

The main cast also includes Jenny Walser as Tori Spring, Rhea Norwood as Imogen Heaney, and Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid.

Anna Maxwell Martin, known for her roles in ‘Motherland’ and ‘Ludwig,’ is taking over the role of Nick’s mother, Sarah, previously played by Olivia Colman.

Oh my gosh, when Netflix finally dropped season three of Heartstopper in October 2024, the entire fandom – me included! – was a complete mess. Seriously, ‘absolute shambles’ is the only way to describe it. I was a wreck, in the best way possible, of course!

I was completely invested in watching Nick and Charlie’s relationship grow! It was so exciting to see them take things to the next level, and I really felt like I was experiencing it with them.

The story’s depiction of Charlie’s struggles with an eating disorder and Nick’s efforts to help deeply affected viewers, with many reporting they cried throughout the entire show.

A specific moment deeply upset viewers: when Nick’s aunt offered guidance on how to talk to Charlie about his eating disorder and support him.

She explained that love isn’t enough to fix a mental health condition, and sometimes people need more help than just one person can provide.

After finishing season 3 of “Heartstopper,” many fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share how deeply moved they were. One user posted that they’d likely spend the rest of the day in bed crying.

The line ‘love can’t cure a mental illness’ really got to me – I was deeply moved by that scene. Kit Connor was incredible as Nick Nelson, he truly nailed the role.

Honestly, that scene in Heartstopper where they address mental health completely blew me away. Watching season 3 is just hitting me really hard with all the emotions – it’s so powerful and relatable.

I’m completely heartbroken after the end of Heartstopper Season 3, Episode 3! Seriously, can I get through a single episode without crying? Joe Locke and Kit Connor are incredible – their performances in these emotional scenes are amazing.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman is incredibly insightful and helpful – it’s honestly something the world really needed! It’s fantastic to see a story that helps so many people understand themselves and others. It’s a truly amazing work.

I’m only partway through season 3 of Heartstopper, and it’s already incredibly moving. I expected this season to be different, but I didn’t realize it would be so emotionally impactful.

Watching this season of Heartstopper as someone with a similar illness is incredibly emotional. It’s really hitting me hard and I can’t stop crying – seriously, be prepared! The music is also so powerful, it’s completely devastating.
