Chilling true-crime series Text Me When You Get Home is trending in Channel 5’s streaming chart

Please be advised that this article discusses sensitive and potentially disturbing topics, including rape and sexual violence.

Many women are very familiar with the phrase “Text me when you‘re home.” It’s commonly used to check if friends or family members have arrived safely, particularly after being out at night.

The phrase #TextMeWhenYouGetHome is also the name of a gripping true crime series currently popular on Channel 5’s streaming platform. The series shares the stories of women—like Sarah Everard—who tragically didn’t make it home, and it’s a truly unsettling watch.

The first episode recounts the terrifying experience of 19-year-old Kenia Monge. After having too much to drink one night, she lost her purse and ended up accepting a ride home from a man in a suspicious white van. Unfortunately, he didn’t take her home.

Kenia fell asleep in her van, and was then brutally attacked and killed. The perpetrator texted her phone afterward, pretending to check if she’d arrived home safely – a cruel attempt to mask his guilt and give her family false hope. Witnessing that hope slowly disappear, and seeing Kenia’s father, Tony Lee, struggle to support his family before being officially notified of her death – before the tragic news became public – is deeply upsetting.

He recalls going to his truck and needing a moment to compose himself before telling his wife, Maria, and Kenia’s sister, Kim, the difficult news. He describes it as the hardest thing he’s ever had to do.

I just can’t wrap my head around how awful Travis Forbes is. He’s pure evil – to strangle, strip, and then bury Kenia in a shallow grave… it’s just horrific. He’s a monster, plain and simple.

Before his capture, Travis also sexually assaulted a second woman, whose identity remains confidential, and intentionally set her apartment on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime. She narrowly escaped by jumping from a window, resulting in a broken ankle. Authorities believe Travis may have harmed other individuals as well.

Kerri Lombardi, who previously served as the top prosecutor in Denver where these crimes took place, remembered the case as deeply disturbing. She described how quickly and tragically the victims’ lives were altered, saying that a single encounter with the perpetrator could irrevocably change everything.
