Denise Richards has publicly addressed the sad news of her former boyfriend Patrick Muldoon’s passing. He died on Sunday at the age of 57.
The actors began dating in 1997 after meeting in an acting class and while filming the movie Starship Troopers. Their relationship lasted until 2000.
They remained friends, and he made guest appearances on her reality shows, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Wild Things.
It’s really difficult to explain, but I was so moved by what this former Bond girl shared on Instagram this Tuesday. She started her post saying…
‘I am deeply heartbroken & devastated losing you. You were my best friend & my family.’
Richards then went into their background together.
We first met in an acting class. I was nineteen and hadn’t had any professional acting work yet, while she was twenty-one, a student at USC, and already had a small, ongoing part on the show Who’s the Boss, she recalled.
Here we are, 36 years later, and I realize my entire adult life has been shaped by knowing you. Our friendship was built on unconditional love, support, respect, and loyalty – a truly rare bond. You had an incredible ability to brighten any space, and your larger-than-life personality drew everyone in. You were a remarkably talented, yet humble, actor. E
Everything about you was so inspiring – your laugh, your kindness, your humor, your strength, and your unwavering loyalty and passion for life. We’ve always supported each other, and I’ll cherish our countless memories. You’ve always had my back and been my greatest protector.
She then talked about her deep grief.
I’m completely lost without you. You always kept me grounded and were my source of strength, especially through all the hardship of the past year. Now, losing you feels unbearable, and I need you more than ever. We always talked about growing old together, living long lives. I’ll be looking for signs that you’re still with me, somehow. I love and miss you so much, my sweet one. 💔🙏🪽
Her daughter Lola Sheen also shared a tribute to social media.
Lola, 20, took to Instagram to share a paparazzi photo of her mom and Muldoon together in a car.
She wrote lovingly about Muldoon, describing him as feeling like family and sharing that she used to ask her mother to get back together with him.
Her mother added a prayer and broken heart emoji in the comment box.
Actor John Callahan, known for his roles on Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at 57, reportedly from a heart attack, according to Deadline.com.
According to his sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, Patrick had coffee with his girlfriend at their Beverly Hills home on Sunday morning before going to take a shower.
Okay, so here’s what happened – his girlfriend started to worry when he was gone a while, and when she went to check on him, she unfortunately discovered him unconscious on the bathroom floor. It was a really scary situation, and thankfully she was there to find him.
Paramedics tried to save his life when they arrived, but unfortunately, it was too late. As one person stated, ‘There was nothing anyone could do.’
The announcement of his passing comes only two days after Muldoon shared exciting news with fans on Instagram: he’d secured a producing role on the upcoming film Kockroach, featuring Chris Hemsworth, Channing Tatum, and Taron Egerton, and that filming would take place in Australia.
He expressed his excitement about working on the new film KOCKROACH, directed by Matt Ross and featuring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, and Alec Baldwin.

Born and raised in California, Muldoon began his acting career while in college. He quickly found success with a role on the sitcom Who’s the Boss?, and soon after graduating in 1991, he made a guest appearance on the popular teen show Saved By the Bell.
Patrick Muldoon became known for his role as Austin Reed on the popular soap opera Days of Our Lives. He was a regular cast member from 1992 to 1995 and later returned to the show for another year, from 2011 to 2012.
In the mid-1990s he was on Melrose Place as villain Richard Hart from 1995 until 1996.
Throughout his career, he’s appeared in many films, including Starship Troopers (1997) as Zander Barcalow and Stigmata (1999). More recently, he starred in Deadlock (2021) alongside Bruce Willis and Marlowe (2022) with Liam Neeson, also serving as a producer on the latter.
John Muldoon is remembered by his partner, Miriam Rothbart, and his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr. He is also survived by his sister, Shana, her husband Ahmet Zappa, and their children, Halo and Arrow.
He has received many tributes already.
Lisa Rinna posted an old photo from her time on Days Of Our Lives to her Instagram Stories, adding a broken heart emoji.
Daphne Zuniga, Patrick’s co-star from Melrose Place, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. She remembered him as a genuinely kind and creative person who constantly pushed himself to grow, both in his acting work – like in classes with Larry Moss – and through his support of organizations like Best Buddies. She fondly recalled their time working together on Melrose Place, describing him as consistently outstanding.
I’m so sorry to hear about Pat. He lived life to the fullest, and he’ll be deeply missed. My thoughts are with Shana, his parents, and everyone who loved him.
Alison Sweeney was among the first to publicly react to the passing of her Days of Our Lives colleague. In a post on X, she described the news as devastating, praising him as a uniquely gifted, kind, and generous person.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with him when I joined Days. He immediately put me at ease, and always brought a wonderful sense of humor and personality to the workplace. He was a remarkably talented person, and his loss will be deeply felt.
Dina Meyer, who starred with him in Starship Troopers, shared that she was heartbroken by his passing, describing him as one of the kindest people she’d ever met and like a brother to her.
Former 7th Heaven star Jeremy London wrote on X: ‘Wtf is happening?!? I just worked with Patrick.’
Dean Cain, who acted alongside Muldoon on the Dog Who Saved Christmas film series, kept it brief.
‘RIP, my friend,’ he wrote next to praying and broken heart emojis.
Barbara Eden expressed her sadness over the unexpected death of Patrick Muldoon, her co-star in the 2019 film “My Adventures with Santa.” She remembered him as a kind and friendly person, and fondly recalled the enjoyable time they spent together on set during filming.
He truly made everything more enjoyable. Losing someone is always hard, but it’s particularly painful when it happens suddenly, as I understand was the case with Patrick. I’m sending my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
Jake Getman said the star was ‘gone too soon’.
He shared a photo of himself with Patrick Muldoon on Instagram, writing, ‘Rest in peace, Patrick. I worked with him on Little Dead Rotting Hood when I was eight years old – he was a wonderful person who always brought positive energy. #gonetoosoon.’
