Alexandra Shulman, who used to be the editor of Vogue magazine, has married her longtime partner, David, after two decades together.
The 68-year-old writer and columnist announced she has married her partner of many years, who is 78. The ceremony took place at the Chelsea Registry Office.
Alexandra shared a photo from her wedding on Instagram, explaining that it was a small event with just family and a few close friends.
Alexandra led British Vogue as editor-in-chief for a remarkable 25 years, and she retired from the position in 2017.
The bride looked radiant in a cheerful red and white dress as friends and family showered them with confetti during a photo shoot with David.
She captioned the post: ‘WE DID IT! Wedding at Chelsea with family and a few friends.
Thank you to @nshulman for the beautiful flowers, @conphipps for a lovely brunch, and @samuelspike for providing the wedding program. #wedding #marriage
Many of Alexandra’s friends offered their congratulations in the comments
She previously discussed her relationship with David in an article for The Mail On Sunday, explaining why they hadn’t gotten married after two decades together. You can find the complete article here.
Alexandra explained she doesn’t like the word ‘partner’ because it sounds too business-like and formal. She also admitted she’s still uncomfortable referring to her significant other as her ‘boyfriend’.
In December, Alexandra posted a cute old photo on Instagram remembering a happy time with David.
After 25 incredible years, I’m sharing the news that Alexandra Shulman has stepped down from her role as editor-in-chief of British Vogue. It’s quite a moment – nearly a quarter-century to the day since she first took the helm! It’s the end of an era, and I’ve always admired her vision and impact on the magazine.
According to Nicholas Coleridge, the head of Condé Nast, Alex Shulman had the longest and most successful tenure of any Vogue editor in the magazine’s century-long history.
Throughout her career, she’s been a leading voice in British fashion journalism. She’s an exceptionally talented writer and editor, possessing all the key qualities of a great professional: creativity, diligence, insight, and strong leadership.
Alexandra explained that she was eager to pursue a new path and build a life independent of her work at Vogue.
I always find it surprising when people comment on my appearance and say, “You don’t seem like the editor of Vogue.” It’s funny because, well, I am the editor! I wonder what expectations they have for how someone in my position should look.
Edward Enninful took over as editor-in-chief of British Vogue after Alexandra stepped down. He then left that role in 2023 when he was appointed Vogue’s global creative and cultural advisor.
Edward was replaced by Chioma Nnadi, who also co-hosts the Vogue podcast The Run-Through.
