Psych Season 9 & Juliet’s Potential Return Story Addressed By Maggie Lawson

Maggie Lawson discusses the possibility of returning for Psychseason 9.

I’ve always been captivated by Dulé Hill’s work as Juliet O’Hara in ‘Psych’! It’s incredible how she’s been a core part of the show for eight seasons and three movies. She plays this really smart, capable detective with the San Francisco PD, and of course, she’s married to Shawn – their dynamic is one of my favorite parts! Because she’s been so central to the series, it’s exciting to hear she has some thoughts on how ‘Psych’ could come back – I’m all ears!

While promoting her new CBS series, Boston Blue, actress Maggie Lawson spoke with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley about the possibility of a Psych season 9. She confirmed that discussions about reviving the show have been happening.

I was really excited to hear that a continuation of the show is still being talked about! Maggie Lawson recently told CBR that she doesn’t want to completely say goodbye to Juliet, and she’d love to play her again, whether it’s in another movie or something different. She’s even thinking about a possible season 9 of Psych! She joked about being ‘Little Miss Reboot’ and thinks one more season might be the perfect way to give the show a proper send-off, and honestly, I’d be thrilled if that happened.

I was chatting with Maggie Lawson, and she drew a really interesting parallel between her current role and her time on Psych. She mentioned her new character, Sarah, in Boston Blue (which you can catch Fridays at 10 PM ET on Paramount+) as someone Juliet might really look up to. It sounds like she’s excited about where the show could go! And the best part? She’s absolutely up for revisiting Psych whenever another project gets the go-ahead. She’s clearly still very connected to that world, and I, for one, would love to see it happen. Here’s exactly what she had to say:

You mentioned to our sister site, CBR, a couple of weeks ago that you’ve been brainstorming ideas for a fourth Psych movie. Where would you like to take Juliet’s story, if you were to continue it? And do you think you’ll ever completely move on from the character, considering there always seems to be potential for more Psych in the future?

I really don’t want to think of this as a final farewell to Juliet. I’d be thrilled to reprise the role in any future project, whether it’s a movie or a new season of the show. I’ve always been open to reboots, and I think Psych deserves a proper ending, not just a single movie. As for where I’d like to see Juliet’s character go, I initially thought a storyline with Sarah would be perfect. Ideally, I’d love to work a case alongside my on-screen family – my dad, William Shatner, and my brother, John Cena. It would be hilarious and a blast to see that happen!

I’m hoping we can continue the series – we actually have a script for a fourth movie, but we’re waiting for official approval. We’re also excited to be hosting a Psych convention this year in San Francisco, with the entire cast attending! It’s amazing to think it’s already been 20 years since the show began.

Lawson highlighted the show Psych‘s history of featuring well-known actors. William Shatner, famous for Star Trek, played Juliet’s father, and WWE star John Cena appeared as her brother. Other guest stars included Bruce Campbell, Keith David, and Jean Smart, who currently stars in Hacks.

The latest Psych movie, Psych 3: This Is Gus, came out on Peacock in November 2021. It was preceded by two other Psych movies that fans enjoyed, with the first performing as well as the original series episodes on USA Network.

With USA Network looking to create more original scripted dramas and procedural shows, a revival of Psych is definitely possible. The actors themselves have expressed interest in returning.
