With filming for the movie Man of Tomorrow now underway, a popular DC actor is preparing to film their part. Fans are thrilled to see the actor back, and they’re anticipating a more significant role in James Gunn’s new Superman movie.
Frank Grillo gives Man of Tomorrow filming update
As a huge DC fan, I was thrilled to see Frank Grillo—who’s been fantastic as Rick Flag Sr. since ‘Creature Commandos’—hint at when he’ll be filming for ‘Man of Tomorrow’! He put up a quick Instagram post saying he’s back in Atlanta for the next adventure, which definitely seems to mean filming is about to start. I’m really excited to see what they have planned for his character!
The actor, known for his role in Tulsa King, shared a quick video after landing. He said he was heading straight to the gym to begin preparations for playing Superman, calling day one of filming ‘an absolute dream’ and expressing his excitement to start filming and ‘kick some butt’ as the iconic hero.
According to the latest updates, Frank Grillo is starting filming today, April 21st. This is right after James Gunn’s new movie began production. While details are scarce, Grillo’s role as Rick Flag Sr. is likely to be more significant than in past DC projects, especially considering the events at the end of Peacemaker Season 2.
So, the sequel to the 2025 Superman movie is officially happening – it’s called Man of Tomorrow! I’m really excited because James Gunn is back directing and writing, which is a great sign. Apparently, Superman and the crew are up against a seriously big bad this time – Brainiac. And get this – to beat him, Superman’s actually going to have to team up with Lex Luthor! Talk about an uneasy alliance – I can’t wait to see how that plays out.
In addition to Paul Dano’s return as The Riddler, David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, María Gabriela de Faría, Isabela Merced, and Aaron Pierre are all back in their previous roles. Joining the cast are Lars Eidinger as Brainiac and Adria Arjona, who is rumored to be playing Maxima. While some fans believe Arjona might be Wonder Woman, this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
I’m really excited about what DC Studios has planned! They’re aiming to release ‘Man of Tomorrow’ on July 9, 2027, which feels like a long way off, but it’ll be worth the wait. Even before that, we’re getting a new series called ‘Lanterns’ in August 2026, and I can’t wait to see Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. It’s going to be amazing!
