Avengers: Doomsday’s New Trailer Just Introduced the 6th-Ever MCU Character to Stop Thor’s Weapon

The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday shown at CinemaCon was full of amazing scenes. The X-Men play a big role, and we even see Gambit fighting Shang-Chi. While it’s exciting to see new characters join the action, it’s the original Avengers who are still stealing the show.

The latest trailer for Doomsday features Thor warning the other heroes that they’ll need to push themselves to the limit if they hope to beat Doctor Doom. The God of Thunder knows what he’s talking about, having already faced off against a powerful villain – Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr. – on his own.

Thor usually defeats his enemies easily. He even earned the title of “strongest Avenger” after a somewhat unfair fight with Hulk in the movie Thor: Ragnarok. However, Doctor Doom is a different kind of challenge – he combines intelligence and strength, making for a very interesting fight against the Asgardian.

Okay, so from what I’ve gathered about the Doomsday trailer shown at CinemaCon, things are getting intense! Apparently, Thor comes charging at Doctor Doom with Stormbreaker, ready for a fight, but Doom just…stops it. With one hand. That’s huge, because Stormbreaker has effortlessly taken down entire armies before, so to see it halted so easily is a real statement about Doom’s power. It definitely got people talking!

Doctor Doom often relies on magic in the comics, something Thor knows well. However, the vastness of the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could make this new villain incredibly powerful, perhaps even unbeatable. Luckily, Thor won’t be facing him alone – a seasoned hero will be there to help.

Okay, so I just saw the trailer for Doomsday, and it’s awesome to have Steve Rogers back! It feels like no time has passed since Endgame – he’s right there with Thor, even wielding Mjolnir again. Honestly, Thor really needs the help. It looks like he’s facing some serious challenges as he gets older and maybe isn’t at the top of his game anymore. It’s good to see Cap stepping up when things look really tough for the God of Thunder.

MCU Characters Who Have Rendered Thor’s Weapons Obsolete

Odin

Even before he had any children, Odin, king of Asgard, had the dwarves of Nidavellir create Mjolnir, a hammer with immense power. Thor later received the hammer but didn’t always use it responsibly, which concerned Odin. Ultimately, Odin felt he had no choice but to act.

In the movie Thor, Odin took away Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and magically altered it so that only someone truly deserving could lift it. A journey to New Mexico, where Thor had no powers, helped him learn humility and prove himself worthy of reclaiming his hammer.

Malekith

The Asgardians defeated the Dark Elves so thoroughly that the villains were forced into a 5,000-year slumber. They eventually returned in Thor: The Dark World, searching for the power of the Aether, which was actually the Reality Stone. Even after Thor arrived, the Dark Elves’ leader, Malekith, believed he was on track to succeed.

An Infinity Stone’s power made it difficult for Mjolnir to harm its target. Only after Jane Foster’s team disrupted the Convergence was Thor able to strike a decisive blow with his hammer and finally defeat the enemy.

Hela

Loki and Thor grew up believing they were Odin’s only children. After the truth about Loki’s parentage was revealed, Thor became the sole heir to the throne of Asgard. But the movie Thor: Ragnarok surprised everyone by introducing Hela, Odin’s oldest child, who had been imprisoned for her extreme cruelty.

Following Odin’s death at the start of Ragnarok, Hela was released. Rather than reconcile with her brothers, she immediately seized Mjolnir, a weapon she’d previously used, and destroyed it. This act forced Thor to discover his own inner strength throughout the rest of the film.

Thanos

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thor was powerless against Thanos without his hammer. His trip to Nidavellir to create Stormbreaker gave him a fighting chance. During their second encounter, Thor actually defeated Thanos, but he briefly lost focus, allowing Thanos to snap his fingers and succeed with his plan.

Thanos’s actions in Infinity War weren’t enough to land him on this list, but his battle with Thor in Avengers: Endgame was impressive. The Thanos from 2014 fought a weakened Thor and even managed to take Stormbreaker, nearly defeating him. Luckily, Steve Rogers stepped in, wielding Mjolnir for the first time to save Thor.

Gorr

In Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr faced immense hardship after the loss of his daughter. Feeling betrayed by the gods he’d worshipped, he sought revenge, bringing him into conflict with Thor. To draw Thor out, Gorr kidnapped the children of Asgard, and his plan worked perfectly.

Gorr wasn’t initially interested in fighting Thor; his real target was the Stormbreaker axe. When Thor tried to use the Bifrost, he accidentally lost the axe and had to seek help from Zeus. Gorr didn’t hold onto Stormbreaker permanently, but he used it effectively while he had it.
