Who Is The Star Wars Hologram At The End Of Maul – Shadow Lord Episode 6

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord episodes 5-6

The latest episode of Maul – Shadow Lord ends with a thrilling new mystery. After several intense lightsaber battles on Janix, the Imperial Inquisitor Marrok contacts someone through a holographic transmission, but it’s unclear who he was speaking to.

At the end of the latest episodes of Shadow Lord, it’s unclear who Marrok, also known as First Brother, is reporting to – he simply calls the person “my lord.” He’s just confirmed that Maul and two Jedi survived on Janix. We also only see a quick, partial view of the hologram he’s communicating with, as it’s mostly off-screen.

The person Marrok was reporting to isn’t a typical Imperial officer; they’re someone powerful Marrok clearly obeys. This significantly limits the possibilities. Here’s a ranking, from least to most likely, of who that character could be at the end of Shadow Lord episode 6.

The Eleventh Brother

Okay, so here’s my take: it looks like Marrok is taking orders from the Eleventh Brother. We already know another Inquisitor is showing up later in ‘Shadow Lord,’ and they’re going to be helping the First Brother track down Maul and any surviving Jedi. So it makes sense Marrok is part of that same team, answering to the Eleventh Brother.

The main issue is that it seems highly unlikely Marrok would address the Eleventh as “my lord.” From what we understand, both the First and Eleventh Brothers hold equal rank within the Imperial Inquisitorius; their numerical designations seem intended to erase their previous identities.

The Eleventh Brother will probably serve as a secondary support figure, dispatched by Marrok’s superior. Now that Maul has been confirmed on Janix, it’s logical to send more Inquisitors to the planet.

The Grand Inquisitor

The Grand Inquisitor is a more likely candidate than Eleventh Brother. As the main leader of the Inquisitorius, he has a higher rank than the other Inquisitors, making him a logical choice for Marrok to report to.

It’s plausible Marrok would address the Grand Inquisitor as “my lord,” considering his higher rank within the Empire. However, this would be unusual, as the phrase is traditionally only used by those speaking to the Sith Lords themselves.

Considering everything, it seems much more probable that Marrok would have passed this information on to his superiors.

Darth Vader

Darth Vader is a much more plausible candidate, as he’s a powerful Sith Lord and currently trained by Emperor Palpatine.

During the time of the Galactic Empire, Darth Vader commanded the Inquisitorius, a group of dark side enforcers. He personally trained these agents and often went on missions to hunt down any remaining Jedi, stepping in when the Inquisitors couldn’t handle the task. The Grand Inquisitor himself reported directly to Vader during this dark period, making it clear that Marrok would address him as “my lord.”

Beyond the strategic implications, a duel between Maul and Darth Vader would be incredibly satisfying for fans. Both characters were apprentices to Darth Sidious, and their shared history, marked by his influence, creates a compelling narrative possibility.

Adding Darth Vader to the rest of the Shadow Lord series would immediately create much higher stakes and a massive, never-before-seen battle against the dark side.

It seems highly likely that Marrok reports directly to Darth Vader, particularly if the show is leading towards a significant team-up between the two most iconic villains in the entire Star Wars universe, no matter what happens later in the series.

Emperor Palpatine

As compelling as Darth Vader would be, the most likely answer is still Emperor Palpatine himself.

We get a quick visual hint thanks to a brief shot of a hologram that looks a lot like Palpatine’s iconic hood. It’s also important to remember Palpatine’s history with Maul. Palpatine initially trained Maul, but later rejected and betrayed him after bringing him back to life during the Clone Wars, ultimately seeing Maul as a threat.

Trailers for the upcoming series, Shadow Lord, suggest Palpatine was aware of Darth Maul’s actions during the period after the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire. Specifically, Inquisitors mention that Palpatine has ordered Maul’s death in future episodes, which strongly implies the Emperor was closely watching events unfold on the planet Janix.

New episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord release Mondays on Disney+ from Lucasfilm Animation.
