Sasha & Esther’s Separation In Nobody Wants This Season 3: What To Expect

Season 2 really tested all the relationships, and unfortunately, Sasha and Esther decided to break up in the finale. Throughout the season, Esther had doubts about her life with Sasha, and their split could significantly affect what happens with them in Season 3 – it’s unclear if it will be permanent or just a temporary separation.

The actors and creators of the Netflix show haven’t revealed much about what happens in the upcoming third season. However, during a recent event called PaleyFest, ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan spoke with them and got some clues about what’s next for Sasha and Esther after their dramatic relationship change.

Jackie Tohn believes the character is exploring life beyond her roles as a mother and wife. Esther feels like she’s been going through the motions, almost on autopilot, and isn’t sure she consciously made her own choices. Meeting Morgan and Joanne makes her realize everyone else is carefree and having fun, and she wonders why she’s the one always worrying. She simply wants to relax, let go, and experience what that feels like.

Sasha is feeling a bit vulnerable after that scene. Though he understands Esther needing space to sort out her feelings, actor Simons admitted he wasn’t thrilled about it.

Timothy Simons says his character isn’t doing well at the start of season 3. He supports Esther as she navigates a difficult situation and allows her the space to deal with it, but he’s understandably unhappy about the turn of events. It’s not what he expected, and he’s really struggling emotionally at the beginning of the season.

Sasha’s relationship with Morgan is also becoming more complicated. Now that Sasha is separating and Morgan is newly single after breaking up with her fiancé, Dr. Andy, at their engagement party, their flirty friendship could turn into something more.

I love working with Tim – he’s just naturally himself! What makes their scenes so enjoyable is the clear connection between their characters. There’s a real spark, whether it’s romantic or just a strong friendship, and it’s always lively and playful. It’s a lot of fun for me as an actor, and Tim is a close friend in real life, so we have great chemistry. My character is someone who’s recovering from a difficult and unhealthy relationship, and the writers have created a really specific and interesting path for her. It’s a fun, funny, and exciting storyline, but I don’t want to reveal too much!

According to Simons, Sasha’s connection with Morgan is very different from his marriage with Esther. He says Sasha and Esther are a good couple, but it’s the shared way they see the world that really sets his bond with Morgan apart.

As a film fan, one of the things I really appreciate about Sasha’s dynamic with Esther is how genuinely good a time they have together. They’re a solid couple, even if things aren’t always perfect. They clearly love each other and have created a family, which is lovely to watch. But what really fascinates me about Sasha’s connection with Morgan is their shared way of looking at the world. They just get each other on a deep level, and that creates a bond – whether it’s romantic or not. It’s compelling to see. Of course, introducing a close friend, especially someone your partner might perceive as attractive, is bound to stir up feelings. But what I find so interesting is that no one is intentionally doing anything wrong. It just feels real – people change, relationships are complicated, and life happens.

At the end of season 2, Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) seemed to be in a solid relationship, but some questions remained, particularly about whether Joanne would convert to Judaism. Here’s what the cast and creators of Nobody Wants This shared about her evolving faith:

Everything The Cast & Team Said About Joanne Converting To Judaism Come Season 3

ScreenRant asked: Joanne is beginning her journey to convert to Judaism this season. What part of that process are you most looking forward to seeing?

Bruce Eric Kaplan points out that Joanne’s journey is about seeing who she is while also acknowledging her growth and the challenges she faces. This is similar to how we all ideally evolve as people. He finds this transformation fascinating – it’s not about Joanne becoming someone else, but about her expanding who she already is. This change naturally impacts her family, because we all have fixed ideas about the people we know and what we expect from them. However, people do change, and that can be difficult for those around them to adjust to.

ScreenRant: Joanne is finally ready to convert. What advice would Sasha have for her?

According to Timothy Simons, Sasha would advise you to simply agree with her mother, no matter what. Just nod and say yes, even if you don’t actually mean it. Sasha believes this is the easiest way to handle things, as her mother will likely forget, or even if she doesn’t, it will make your life much simpler.
