Andy Dick projects healthier image as he gets some fresh air outside halfway house after near-fatal overdose

Andy Dick appeared much healthier during a recent sighting outside his Los Angeles halfway house, looking better than he has in a long time.

The 60-year-old comedian, who has been facing difficulties, was seen getting some fresh air and talking on the phone while outside the facility.

Dick’s health appeared to be on the upswing following a scary overdose he suffered in December.

He was photographed leaning against a building, appearing unwell, while his friends worked to help him regain consciousness.

After a recent overdose and a short time in rehab, Dick shared that doctors found several areas of damage in his brain, likely caused by the trauma.

Despite recent news, the actor known for NewsRadio seemed relaxed this week. He was seen wearing a casual outfit: a black hoodie and sweatpants, a purple t-shirt, and black Crocs.

Dick was spotted talking to someone near the halfway house, and then he sat down at a bus stop.

The comedian had previously admitted to using crack cocaine with a stranger he met before he overdosed in December.

TMZ published shocking video of Dick collapsed on the sidewalk, with friends calling out to him and attempting to help him regain consciousness.

Doctors were able to revive Dick after an overdose by giving him several doses of Narcan, a medication that reverses the effects of opioids. He then completed a six-week treatment program at a rehab facility in Palm Springs.

It’s important to know that crack is different from an opioid, so the overdose reversal drug Narcan won’t work on a crack overdose.

Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that’s often mixed with other drugs without people knowing. Fortunately, overdoses from fentanyl can be reversed with a medication called Narcan.

This medication is a strong pain reliever with valid medical applications, but it can also be heated on aluminum foil and inhaled, a method similar to how Dick thought he had used crack cocaine.

He shared on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast that a brain scan after the incident revealed several areas of damage, which he described as ‘holes’ in his brain.

However, a representative for Dick later explained that the brain damage wasn’t caused by the overdose. They believe it stemmed from an old injury – a punch he received years earlier, as reported by Page Six.

The Daily Mail has contacted Dick’s representatives for further comment.

According to a representative, Andy’s brain injury stems from a 2019 assault where he was unexpectedly attacked outside the venue he’d just performed at with Paris Dylan, leaving him nearly fatally wounded.

The statement confirmed that doctors expect a full recovery for his brain. It also mentioned Dick has struggled with addiction for many years, having been to rehab over 20 times, but is currently healthy, sober, and doing well.

Okay, so this guy who attacked Dick in 2019? He told the police Dick grabbed him, like, down there, and then winked! Can you believe the nerve?! But Dick and Paris Dylan both said it’s a total lie, that it never happened. I just… I’m so protective of Dick, and this whole thing is just awful. It makes me so mad that someone would even say something like that!

In a recent podcast interview with Howie Mandel, Dick Van Dyke revealed that he clinically died after overdosing in December, describing how he turned purple and stopped breathing.

He says he has no memory of anything before finding himself in an ambulance, and admits his past substance abuse has permanently affected his ability to remember things.

Dick explained that he had a brain scan – a CAT scan, he thought – which revealed five to seven holes in his brain.

According to TMZ, Dick shared in late January that he had completed a roughly 50-day rehab program and was now living in a sober living home near Beverly Hills.

The day after being overdosed, Dick gave an interview, speaking with difficulty, alongside the friends who had assisted him during the emergency.

Apparently, Dick disappeared and got into trouble, requiring his friends to work together to help him out.

The comedian told TMZ he met someone his age and felt sympathy for him. Then, the man unexpectedly pulled out crack cocaine, and the comedian admitted he was curious and occasionally uses it himself. He wanted to see what the man was doing and didn’t object to trying some crack now and then.

He shared on the podcast Hate to Break It To Ya that when he woke up after overdosing in January, his first words were, ‘Where’s the vodka?’ He told this story to comedian Jamie Kennedy.

Dick struggled with a long-term addiction to rollercoasters, which led to multiple arrests and legal issues, including allegations of sexual misconduct.

In 2022, he was convicted of sexually assaulting an Uber driver in 2018. He received a 90-day jail sentence and was required to register as a sex offender.

In June 2021, he was arrested for reportedly hitting his partner with a metal chair. Then, in October of the same year, he was arrested again, accused of hitting his boyfriend in the face with a frying pan.

In December 2019, he was found guilty of sexual battery after squeezing a woman’s rear end. He received a two-week jail sentence, but due to jail overcrowding, he only served one night.

In 2018, his second wife, Lena Sved, filed a restraining order due to domestic violence. This forced him to leave their home and stay at least 100 yards away from her and their children—Lucas, 37, Jacob, 31, and Meg, 27.

In 2010, Dick was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a man at a West Virginia bar. The accusation involved unwanted contact with the man’s genitals while he was intoxicated.

In 2008, he was arrested on charges of indecent exposure involving a 17-year-old girl, and also for possessing drugs.

He admitted guilt to minor charges of marijuana possession and battery related to the event, and was sentenced to three years of probation.

While on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2007, he was escorted offstage by security after repeatedly and inappropriately touching Ivanka Trump.

In 1999, police found cocaine and marijuana in his car after he crashed into a traffic signal, and he was subsequently charged with possession of both drugs.
