5’s recent thriller series, Missed Call, is performing very well, currently ranking as the most popular show on their streaming platform.
Joanna Scanlan, known for her roles in shows like Slow Horses and The Thick of It, stars as a mother whose teenage daughter is participating in a student exchange program in France.
Everything she feared most happened when a late-night phone call forced her to travel quickly across the English Channel.

When Sarah travels to France, she’s shocked to find that both the family Katie was staying with and the local police seem strangely unconcerned about her being missing.
Because Sarah won’t settle for inaction, her desperate search for her daughter becomes a thrilling and perilous struggle against the clock.

Robert Lindsay, known from My Family, and Rupert Graves, famous for Sherlock, are also starring in the show. The script was co-written by Sally Abbott, who has worked on Vera, and Paul Matthew Thompson, from Shakespeare and Hathaway.
Scanlan has portrayed her character as a woman who is multifaceted, lively, and resolute. Paul Testar, from Channel 5, highlighted the show’s impressive international actors and the engaging story built around contrasting cultures.

Even though Missed Call was the most popular stream on platform 5, it hasn’t received much critical attention, with very few reviews available online.
Both Herald Scotland and The Mail offered initial reactions to the show. Herald Scotland described it as somewhat inconsistent but praised the lead actor’s potential, suggesting he could ultimately deliver a strong performance. The Mail focused on the first episode, finding it promising and building momentum.
Reddit users described the show as typically average – enjoyable while it lasts, but not particularly memorable. Many also found the character Scanlan to be unlikeable.
Currently, the second most popular show on 5’s top 10 list is The Teacher, which has just started its third season.
You can now watch all four episodes of Missed Call on the 5 streaming service, as they’ve finished airing this week.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
