Star of one of the best British dramas, This Is England, responds to exciting return rumours

For years, fans have been asking if we’ll ever see more of This Is England. The last season aired in 2015, but earlier this year, writer Jack Thorne – who collaborated with the show’s creator, Shane Meadows – hinted that a continuation might be possible, giving us a glimmer of hope.

In an interview with Radio Times, Stephen Thorne addressed the ongoing speculation about a potential This Is England ’00 storyline set in the year 2000. He revealed that he and Shane Meadows had talked about revisiting the series “a few times,” but ultimately stated it depends on when Meadows feels ready to tell another story. He added that this story could be set in 2000, 2004, or even 2020.

Many of the actors from This Is England, including Vicky McClure (known for Line of Duty), Joe Gilgun (Brassic), and Stephen Graham (Adolescence), have achieved significant success in their careers. Michael Socha was also a key part of the original film and its subsequent TV series.

More recently, Socha has appeared in several highly regarded TV series, including the award-winning HBO miniseries Chernobyl, the BBC’s critically acclaimed drama Time, Netflix’s Toxic Town, and the BAFTA-nominated What It Feels Like for a Girl.

The actor is set to appear with Sheridan Smith in the new BBC thriller, The Cage. He discussed the project this week on the television program The One Show.

Alex Jones and Roman Kemp were interviewing the pair about their upcoming show, but they also used the chance to ask about the possibility of another season of This Is England. Rumors have been circulating, and fans are eager to know if a return is likely.

During the chat show, Socha said he hadn’t personally heard the rumors. However, when asked if he’d be interested, he gave a very enthusiastic and definite “Absolutely!”

He explained that This Is England was very meaningful to him for a lot of reasons. He really loved working on the show and became close with the cast, many of whom are now among his best friends.

Originally released in 2006, This Is England was hailed by Digital Spy as one of the top British films of the last 25 years. The movie is a coming-of-age story set in the East Midlands during the early 1980s, following Shaun Fields (played by Thomas Turgoose), a schoolboy who finds himself drawn to an older group of skinheads after struggling in school.

The story, focused on its characters, was developed into a three-season mini-series. Each season followed the characters at different points in time: 1986, 1988, and 1990.

Here’s hoping for another one…

This Is England ’86, ’88 and ’90 are currently available on Channel 4.
