Raye shared in a recent interview that she’s waiting to fall in love before she starts writing songs for her next album.
The 28-year-old singer, speaking at The Sunday Times Young Power List 2026 event, revealed she often pushes herself to exhaustion because she worries about her career ending if she slows down.
Only a few weeks after releasing her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, Raye is already planning her next musical endeavor, but she’s deliberately avoiding focusing on romantic relationships for inspiration.
She mentioned her upcoming third album, saying she’s already decided on a title: ‘And Then She Fell in Love’.
I won’t write any songs – not for a year, five years, or even ten – until I reach a new point in my life. It’s my way of making a statement without saying anything.
Raye is incredibly busy with touring and working on her new album, leaving her with very little time for dating. She’s completely focused on her career and pushing herself to achieve as much as possible.
Raye explained that she feels pressure to constantly create because of a fear that if she stops working, people will lose interest. After working so hard to achieve her current success, she feels compelled to keep the momentum going – like she needs to ‘feed the machine’ to maintain it.
After signing a record deal in 2014, she fought for nine years to release her debut album, which finally came out in 2023.
Let me tell you, 2026 started with a major win for Raye! Her song ‘Where Is My Husband’ finally hit Number One in the UK charts – it was a fantastic moment after spending fifteen weeks climbing its way to the top. As someone who keeps a close eye on what’s trending, I knew it was only a matter of time!
Her success comes after a long and difficult rise in the music business.
Born Rachel Agatha Keen, she initially signed a record deal with Polydor. However, after several years of disappointment – with albums repeatedly delayed or cancelled – she and the label parted ways.
She has spoke openly about feeling creatively stuck and sidelined during that period.
Raye took charge of her career after leaving her previous label. She partnered with the independent distributor Human Re Sources, giving her complete creative control over her music.
This decision was key, giving her the freedom to release music when she wanted and connect with her fans authentically.
Now working as an independent artist, she collaborates with a small team that gathers at her home.
Raye has spoken about a difficult time with her former record label, explaining she felt overwhelmed and reached a low point. She admitted to using drugs and alcohol as a way to cope, but ultimately realized she wanted to take control of her own life.
Over the past few years, that resolve has paid off in spectacular fashion.
Raye has quickly become a major success story in pop music. After receiving praise for her first album, breaking records at the Brit Awards, and now topping the singles chart, her career is experiencing a remarkable comeback.
