First look at Emilia Clarke in “sumptuous” British drama as it gets exciting update

Good news for fans of the upcoming British drama, Next Life, starring Emilia Clarke and Édgar Ramírez! We now have a release date and a sneak peek image.

The new movie is a love story set in London, with a touch of science fiction. It begins when Ivy, played by Clarke, encounters a jazz musician on a train, and then unfolds across two distinct timelines.

Okay, so in this game, Ivy gets thrown into two totally different storylines. In one, she and this musician have this instant connection and it’s a fast-moving romance. But in the other, she’s back in touch with her ex-fiancé. It’s really messing with my head because I’m trying to figure out which one is actually happening – which timeline is the real deal?

Drake Doremus’s new film, Next Life, will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City from June 3rd to 14th. The film, written and directed by Doremus, has been eagerly awaited and is set to have its world premiere at the festival’s 25th anniversary celebration.

We’re getting a first glimpse of Clarke and Ramírez’s characters together in a bar, but it’s still unclear if they’ll become a couple. The film will premiere on June 5th, with additional screenings on June 6th and a final showing on June 9th.

According to Tribeca, the story begins when Ivy meets an attractive jazz musician on a train. This single encounter splits the narrative into two possibilities: one where she starts a romance with him, and another where she gets back together with her former fiancé.

Ivy is faced with two different lives, both offering her everything she desires. She wonders which love is real and how she can possibly decide between them.

Thorsten Schumacher, CEO of Rocket Science, had previously described the film as “sumptuous”.

Critics are calling Next Life a beautifully made and enjoyable film about pursuing what you love. According to Deadline, the movie is visually stunning and emotionally resonant, with a vibrant depiction of London’s music scene and standout performances, particularly from Emilia Clarke.

The movie doesn’t have a wide release date yet, but it does star Jack Farthing. If you’re in or near New York City and can make it to the Tribeca Film Festival, tickets will be available starting April 28th.

Emilia Clarke, famous for playing Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, is returning to film with Next Life. This will be her first live-action movie since The Pod Generation in 2023. She recently starred alongside Haley Lu Richardson in Ponies, a spy thriller series on Peacock.

I was so excited to see Javier Ramírez play Gustavo Brun in Emilia Perez, a really cool French musical crime film that came out in 2024. It’s filmed in Spanish, which I thought added a lot to the atmosphere!

Next Life will premiere at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival in June.
