Meghan Trainor revealed she has been in ‘heavy therapy’ to work on her marriage to Daryl Sabara.
The 32-year-old singer, who has three children with her actor partner, explained that prioritizing their kids caused them to drift apart as a couple.
She openly admitted she and her husband, the actor from Spy Kids, started marriage counseling because they’d been arguing a lot.
Ashley Trainor and Justin Sabara have been married since 2018 and are parents to three children: five-year-old Riley, two-year-old Barry, and their daughter Mikey, who was born in January through surrogacy.
Okay, so I’m freaking out a little because I just read that Lizzo is in therapy! Like, seriously, in therapy. She told Us Weekly all about it, and honestly, it makes me love her even more. She’s getting ready to drop her seventh album, ‘Toy With Me,’ on April 24th, and I’m already counting down the seconds! It’s just…everything about her is amazing, and knowing she’s working on herself too? Ugh, a queen!
Okay, so get this – she actually told us she was going through marriage counseling while making the album! Can you believe it? But the best part? She said things are AMAZING now, like, seriously, totally fixed, that she’s telling everyone to try counseling. It’s just…so inspiring to see them so happy after everything. I’m living for it!
Raising young children – from ages one to five – often puts a strain on your marriage. It’s easy to lose sight of your connection and start arguing, leaving you wondering why you’re battling when you should be working together.
We began couples therapy because we noticed that even during small disagreements, it felt like we were seeing things completely differently. We were essentially living in separate worlds, even when discussing minor issues, she explained.
‘We would even say in our fights, “Hey, we’re not even fighting about the same thing.”‘
Trainor explained that she and Sabara make sure to resolve any disagreements before going to bed, emphasizing that open communication is essential for their relationship.
She explained that they make a point of discussing issues openly and thoroughly to prevent any lingering bitterness. Holding things back, she said, creates resentment, which can ultimately destroy a relationship.
Trainor shared that their relationship is now in a much better place, and they’ve significantly reduced their arguing.
She described a newfound closeness, saying they now understood each other completely, almost as if they could read each other’s thoughts. They’d stopped arguing and now supported each other in a deeper, more meaningful way.
This follows Trainor’s recent acknowledgment of the support she received from her husband and therapist while navigating online criticism regarding her weight loss and her choice to use a surrogate for her daughter’s birth.
Meghan Trainor recently mentioned on the Not Gonna Lie podcast that she avoided reading online comments.
Honestly, I wasn’t surprised by the negativity. I’d already been dealing with so much hate just for changing my appearance, for simply taking care of myself and looking different. So, when things started to escalate, I just thought, ‘Here we go, they really don’t like me now,’ and braced myself for the backlash.
Honestly, it was incredibly stressful – nights filled with tears just from the anxiety of it all. As a mom, what I really want is for my daughter to enter this world and be accepted for who she is, without facing judgment simply because of how she came into being. It’s about letting her be herself, free from unnecessary negativity.
Trainor explained she had a lot of thoughts racing through her mind, but she felt supported by her team, her therapist, and especially her husband, who told anyone criticizing them to ‘go away’.
She also shared that they chose to have their third child with the help of a surrogate, explaining that she was facing some health issues.
It was just… devastating, honestly. We were facing these huge, life-altering choices, and I was falling apart. I was so unwell, I was practically heading towards a full-blown autoimmune condition. It was terrifying, and I was just trying to cope with everything at once. I was so worried about it all!
We had a lot of discussions, and ultimately decided the safest option was to use a surrogate.
