Phil Collins delivers succinct response to Rock Hall induction

It wasn’t a matter of if Phil Collins deserved to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but why it took so long for him to even be considered. Musicians become eligible 25 years after their first big release, and Collins’ came out in 1981.

So, I was really stoked to see Genesis get into the Rock Hall back in 2010, and then Peter Gabriel got his nod in 2014. Honestly, it felt like forever before Phil Collins finally got recognized himself – twelve years is way too long to wait for a legend like him!

The singer and drummer didn’t seem upset with the Rock Hall, especially considering how he reacted to the news of his induction. Collins shared on X, “I’m obviously pleased and honored to be inducted. It feels like a fitting end to a great career in music.”

Phil Collins gives short and sweet response on social media to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction news

While many are thrilled about Phil Collins’ induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, there’s a bittersweet feeling. Fans are hoping he’ll continue creating music for years to come, even though it seems unlikely given his health.

The musician has struggled with serious health issues for a while now. He’s had several knee surgeries that prevent him from drumming like he used to, and he’s also developed kidney problems likely due to years of heavy drinking. He now requires around-the-clock care from a live-in nurse to manage his medications.

He might sing at the Rock Hall induction ceremony in November, or he could have other artists perform his songs instead. This isn’t unusual for these events.

Look, it’s not like the Rock Hall caused Phil Collins’ health problems, but honestly, if they’d just put him on the ballot when he was first eligible, like 20 years ago, he could have really enjoyed getting inducted. It’s a shame he couldn’t be there to celebrate properly, and it feels like it could have been avoided if they’d acted sooner. As a fan, it just sucks to see that happen.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame made some excellent choices for its 2026 class. Phil Collins is a well-deserved inductee, and they’re finally recognizing other long-overdue artists like Iron Maiden, Oasis, Luther Vandross, and the combined legacy of Joy Division and New Order.

Although the induction ceremony won’t be broadcast live, you can watch it on ABC and Disney+ starting in December. The event will take place on Saturday, November 14th, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
