Dune 3 debuts footage of “intense” opening battle being compared to Saving Private Ryan

Fans of Dune are getting closer to seeing the third movie in Denis Villeneuve’s saga, and early footage is being compared to the intense battle scenes in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan.

Director Denis Villeneuve and actors Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa appeared at CinemaCon, the yearly movie industry event in Las Vegas.

Guests at the event got a sneak peek at the first seven minutes of Dune: Part Three, featuring a thrilling battle scene with Javier Bardem’s character, Stilgar, leading his forces. The scene has been praised as being as impactful as the battle sequences in Saving Private Ryan.

The presentation was incredibly well-received, exceeding expectations, according to World of Reel.

Based on the strong reactions – many people likened the scenes to the famous Normandy landing in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan – Villeneuve seems to have created something truly remarkable with this concluding installment of the series.

The new footage showed a heated argument between Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya). We also saw a tense exchange between Jason Momoa’s character – a copy of the late Duncan Idaho – and the now-fallen hero.

“You’ve conquered the galaxy,” Momoa tells Chalamet in the new footage.

“You’ve wiped out countless worlds,” the figure states. Chalamet’s character responds by asking, “How do you feel about that?”

“I think you’re way beyond redemption,” Momoa concludes.

Director Denis Villeneuve hinted that the new movie, which he calls a thriller, will be “more intense and emotional” than the previous films (according to The Hollywood Reporter).

Chalamet addressed Paul’s descending spiral, saying: “He’s become his worst vision.”

Zendaya also explained how the characters have been impacted by the events of the first two films.

It feels like time hasn’t been easy on the characters in Dune,” she noted, adding that the last few years have been difficult. However, she reassured fans that there’s still plenty worth striving for.

Regarding her character, Chani, the actress from The Drama explained that Chani has lost her sense of youthful optimism.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to be released on 18 December.
