M. Night Shyamalan‘s next movie has important connections to his past.
M. Night Shyamalan has hinted that his upcoming romantic thriller, Remain, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, marks a return to a genre that’s important to him. The film, co-written by Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks (author of The Notebook), centers on Tate Donovan (Gyllenhaal), an architect who falls for a young woman while building a vacation home in Cape Cod.
At the recent CinemaCon presentation, director M. Night Shyamalan hinted that his upcoming film feels like a return to his earlier style, similar to his breakthrough 1999 movie, The Sixth Sense. He shared that early viewers are reacting to the new film in much the same way they did to his famous ghost story, which helped launch his career. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on February 5, 2027.
I’m really excited about Remain – it’s shaping up to be a proper ghost story, and supernatural elements are central to the whole thing, which makes total sense given the premise. It follows Tate, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who’s dealing with some serious depression and grieving the loss of his sister. From what I’ve heard, a woman named Wren (Phoebe Dynevor) comes into his life and really throws everything off balance. It sounds incredibly compelling!
