I rode in the Goodyear blimp over Coachella

If you’d like to take a ride on the Goodyear blimp, it turns out you can’t do it wearing heels.

On the second day of Coachella, the team from the tire company’s blimp—including the person who manages their social media—invited me, Rebecca Castillo, and Kayla Bartkowski for a short flight over the festival grounds.

Before boarding the airship, which held around six to eight passengers, we watched a safety video. It explained that high heels aren’t allowed on board, but if you were wearing them, a Goodyear representative might be able to help you find alternative shoes. I even heard one rep had already lent out her sneakers to several people that day.

Anyway!

The flight was surprisingly smooth, more like a calm boat ride. We departed from a large dirt field at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal and flew around for about half an hour. As we passed over Coachella, we could see hundreds of Justin Bieber fans already camped out, trying to get as close to the stage as possible – and this was still nine or ten hours before the concert even started.

They looked so little down there — so small in size, so big in Beliebf.

After landing, we exited the blimp in pairs, with each new couple taking the place of those who had signed up for a chance to ride on the giant, floating advertisement through an email invitation.

The ladies who replaced Rebecca and Kayla looked super jazzed; my guy seemed less impressed.

Maybe he’d blimped before.
