The MCU Is Finally Set To Answer A Question Marvel Has Been Avoiding For 8 Years

After eight years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is poised to answer a long-standing question related to its earlier collaborations with Netflix. The Netflix Marvel series started with Daredevil in 2015, followed by shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. These four heroes eventually teamed up in The Defenders, and The Punisher also got his own series.

Although Netflix canceled its Marvel shows in 2019, some of the actors have reprised their roles in other Marvel projects. Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock, appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk, and Echo, while Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Wilson Fisk in Hawkeye and Echo.

The popular characters are back in the Netflix series, now titled Daredevil: Born Again, which is currently filming its second season. Several original cast members returned, including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa, and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher.

The second season will feature Krysten Ritter reprising her role as Jessica Jones, marking her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a four-year absence. Recent on-set pictures suggest a complete reunion of the Defenders team, and Marvel has the opportunity to resolve a plot point left hanging at the end of Iron Fist season 2.

Luke Cage And Iron Fist Are Seemingly Returning In Daredevil: Born Again

Jessica Jones’ comeback fueled speculation that Luke Cage and Iron Fist might also return, and now it seems that’s happening. Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) are reportedly joining Krysten Ritter in season 3 of Born Again. Photos from the set, shared on X by user @WarlingHD (via Getty Images), show all three actors together.

Although Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed it, a team-up seems likely now that Jessica Jones is back. It’s unclear exactly how they’ll fit into the plot of Born Again – things could still change before the season ends – but the story seems to be heading towards a big showdown between Kingpin’s crew and New York City’s heroes.

It’s been eight years since we’ve seen Luke Cage and Iron Fist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as their respective shows concluded in 2018. The upcoming Born Again series could be a great chance to finally resolve a cliffhanger from the Iron Fist season 2 finale, which left viewers wondering about what happened to Danny Rand’s abilities.

Born Again Can Explain How Danny Rand Got His Powers Back At The End Of Iron Fist Season 2

At the end of Iron Fist season 2, Danny Rand lost his powers and passed the title of Iron Fist to Colleen Wing. He then left for Asia with Ward Meachum to find Orson Randall.

While in Japan, Danny and Ward are at a bar when a man shoots at Danny. Danny reacts by pulling out two guns, channeling his Chi to empower the bullets and make them intercept the attacker’s. This shows Danny has regained his abilities, though the reason for their return remains unexplained.

He’s now able to focus his Chi in both fists, hinting that he’s become even stronger. Unfortunately, because Iron Fist was cancelled after two seasons, this development wasn’t fully explored. But the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again offers a chance for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to explain how Danny Rand regained his Iron Fist abilities and potentially showcase new ways he can use them.
