AMC Networks, known for shows like “The Walking Dead” and the TV versions of Anne Rice’s vampire stories, is changing its name. This reflects the company’s focus on streaming and creating content, rather than just traditional cable television.
The New York company announced Wednesday that it is changing its name to AMC Global Media, starting immediately.
The company, home to channels like AMC, We TV, SundanceTV, BBC America, and IFC, announced that streaming now accounts for the majority of its revenue in the United States.
As a movie and TV fanatic, I’m really seeing AMC expand their reach! They’ve got over 10 million people paying for their different streaming services. That includes Shudder, which is awesome for horror lovers like me, and ALLBLK, which has great content for Black audiences. They’ve also got HIDIVE for all the anime fans, and All Reality if you’re into unscripted shows. It’s cool to see them offering so much variety!

Acorn TV, known for its popular mystery shows, is trying to attract more viewers by featuring well-known American actors such as Alicia Silverstone and Brooke Shields.
AMC Studios creates and distributes TV shows and movies to networks and streaming services around the world. They’ve also licensed their content within the U.S. to popular streaming platforms like Netflix and HBO Max.
According to CEO Kristin Dolan, the company’s new name represents its evolution into a global media and studio powerhouse, where streaming is now the primary driver of revenue within the U.S.
AMC Networks is facing lower revenues because more people are cutting the cord and switching from traditional cable and satellite TV to streaming services. This drop in viewership is also impacting their advertising income.
The company’s stock closed Wednesday at $7.55. It was trading at over $60 per share in 2021.
