Prior to its digital launch, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has broken records and now holds the title as the highest-earning game in the entire franchise.
The third installment of the Sonic series, titled “Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles Unite,” set for digital launch on January 21st in America, is yet to announce a release date in the United Kingdom. This movie features Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles joining forces with Dr Robotnik against Shadow the Hedgehog.
It’s been confirmed that the earnings from “Sonic 3” have made it the most profitable in the entire “Sonic” movie series, raking in a total of $420 million worldwide (according to Deadline).
In terms of earnings, Sonic 3 outperformed Sonic 2’s gross income of $405 million, while Sonic 1 managed to amass a global total of approximately $320 million.
More recently, the creators of Sonic 3 revealed the reason behind their decision to alter the movie’s ending compared to the original game version.
In the course of the game, it becomes clear that Maria Robotnik is fatally shot by a soldier as she assists Shadow in his escape. This event leaves Sonic deeply saddened and determined to seek retribution.
As stated by authors Josh Miller and Pat Casey, the movie’s creators did not initially plan to incorporate a revenge plotline. Instead, they needed to devise an alternative method to weave in a storyline centered around vengeance.
Since the initial discussion about this matter, there seemed to be a general consensus among everyone that something along the lines of, “We’re not sure it’s appropriate to harm a young girl,” as expressed by Miller in his conversation with GamesRadar.
In a family-friendly film, creating a plot centered around a young girl being killed could be challenging. It appears that having her meet a violent death by gunshot wasn’t something that was ever going to happen.
In the UK, you can now pre-order Sonic 3 through Prime Video and iTunes. Similarly, in the US, pre-ordering Sonic 3 is possible via both Prime Video and iTunes as well.
