Rachel Maddow returns to five nights a week on MSNBC
Rachel Maddow is going back to nightly prime-time duty on MSNBC.
Starting January 20th, as announced on Monday, the daily time slot for Maddow, the most prominent host on the progressive network, will continue until the end of the first 100 days of the second term of the Trump administration.
In 2022, Rachel Maddow shifted her broadcast schedule to air only once a week. Specifically, she took to the airwaves on Mondays, while Alex Wagner managed the prime-time slot from Tuesday to Friday at 9 p.m.
As a devoted cinephile, I can attest to the strategic move made by MSNBC in amplifying Rachel Maddow’s on-screen presence. This decision, in essence, is a calculated gamble that viewers, particularly those with liberal leanings, will once more turn towards MSNBC when Donald Trump resumes his role as president. The network experienced a surge in ratings during the turbulent times of Trump’s impeachment trials and hearings, and it seems they are counting on this pattern to persist.

TV viewership for election coverage during the current presidential race saw a decline for the second time in a row, attracting approximately 42.3 million television audiences.
Since Donald Trump, who was not Vice President Kamala Harris’s counterpart, won the presidency, MSNBC has experienced a significant drop in viewership. This decline is common among politically active cable news viewers who often lose interest following an election when they are dissatisfied with the outcome.
During her evening broadcast, “Alex Wagner Tonight” will resume on MSNBC’s schedule starting May 1. Meanwhile, Wagner will cover news stories nationwide under the title “Trumpland: The First 100 Days.
This action aligns with Comcast’s plans to separate MSNBC, along with CNBC, the Golf Channel, and USA Network, into a fresh company that houses their slower-growing assets. The objective behind this spinoff is to extract these assets with limited growth potential from Comcast.
Maddow temporarily adjusted her regular routine to delve into various other ventures like podcasting, documentary production, and scripted movie-making. Despite this shift, she still maintains her show’s airing on a weekly schedule, and remains a frequent face on MSNBC for live updates during significant political events.
