Netflix’s ‘wholesome, drama-filled’ show Virgin River gets exciting season 8 update

Great news for fans of Virgin River! Season eight is officially being filmed. Alexandra Breckenridge, the show’s star, announced the start of filming on Instagram with a photo of herself and co-star Martin Henderson on set. She captioned the picture with a purple heart, rainbow, and wind emoji, signaling that season eight is underway.

One fan expressed their excitement for season eight, and beyond, hoping Netflix doesn’t make them wait as long for it as they did for season seven.

One viewer shared that they binge-watch new seasons as soon as they’re released, and now the wait for season eight feels extra long. Another simply stated that the show is worth the cost of their Netflix subscription.

In season eight, Henderson will make his directorial debut. The new season continues the story from the cliffhanger ending of season seven, where Mel welcomed her baby boy, who required NICU care due to a heart condition.

Breckenridge shared with Tudum that she’s looking forward to seeing her character, Mel, become a mother. She feels fans have been waiting for this moment for a while and expects it to be a heartwarming storyline, though she predicts it won’t be as easy for Mel as she hopes.

At the start of the new season, Mel and Jack’s son will be treated by Eli (Austin Nichols), a top pediatric heart surgeon – and Mel’s former partner.

According to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, the new season will focus on the difficulties a couple faces when raising a child with physical disabilities, and the general struggles of becoming new parents—especially when dealing with a particularly stressful situation.

Virgin River seasons 1-7 are streaming now on Netflix.
