Gossip Girl actress Samantha Rose Baldwin bravely ran through the raging Los Angeles fires to rescue her cat

Actress Samantha Rose Baldwin, who plays a role in the rebooted series “Gossip Girl,” shared with DailyMail.com her thrilling account of braving flames and destruction during the Palisades Fire to save her beloved cat.

26-year-old Baldwin, in me, an ardent fan, wasn’t fleeing the fiery furnace that resembled a blow torch, no sirree! Instead, I valiantly sprinted towards home with a heartfelt mission: to rescue my cherished 10-year-old tortoiseshell companion, Kitty.

The actress, who first appeared on TV during the second season of the Gossip Girl reboot that aired from 2021 to 2022, encountered many obstacles on her way home – even navigating through continuous traffic as terrified individuals were evacuating.

In simpler terms, a routine 28-minute trip from West Hollywood to Pacific Palisades unexpectedly became a grueling 2.5-hour ordeal for a New Yorker, forcing her to leave her vehicle behind and rush on foot to save her beloved cat.

Upon returning near my residence, I found all vehicles stationary. Traffic was gridlocked, and according to my GPS, it would take a minimum of two more hours to reach home. At that point, I chose to leave my vehicle behind and sprint towards home instead.

‘I ran for about 15 minutes on Sunset Boulevard until I made it home,’ Baldwin told DailyMail.com. 

While working as a security guard at an elementary school that later burned down, Michael, the father of the actresses, assisted in ensuring that the students were safely evacuated.

Without hesitation, Baldwin leaped into motion, and a flurry of questions swarmed his mind – could I rescue my cat, and was my father secure, preparing to depart?

Once inside her apartment, the next challenge was finding her tortoiseshell cat who was hiding.

In the realm of feline-friendly living, I found myself on a delightful adventure that lasted approximately 20 minutes. My elusive companion had cleverly concealed herself within our favorite piece of furniture – the couch. With a sense of determination, I carefully extracted her and enveloped her in a cozy blanket before securely stowing her away in my cat carrier backpack, ready for our next adventure together.

As we stepped outdoors, the fire’s proximity had noticeably increased, making the once viable route back to my vehicle impracticable.

In the heart of the chaos, I found myself questioning, “Where on earth should I be headed?” Surrounded by flames, every breath felt like a battle against the inferno. The chilling instant arrived when a ferocious gust of wind and smoke swept in so swiftly that it blinded my sight, plunging me into an eerie veil of uncertainty.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share this thrilling tale: Found myself in a precarious predicament, sandwiched between blazing flames and the vast expanse of the ocean. In such a situation, the logical course was clear – dash towards the life-giving waters! With my beloved feline companion securely fastened to my back and a rolling suitcase in tow, I sprinted for dear life, every step bringing me closer to safety.

In order to navigate, I found myself swiftly weaving between vehicles and deftly avoiding falling flames from branches and palms leaves that rained down, creating an environment reminiscent of a dangerous obstacle course.

‘It felt like something I would see or do in an action movie, not my real life.’ 

After reaching the safety of the beach, Baldwin found her father who, having safely evacuated the school, was now assisting firefighters in guiding traffic and aiding those in distress.

As I sprinted toward the sea, I phoned my mother to express my love for her. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would reach safety, Baldwin admitted.

As I reached Pacific Coast Highway, the vehicle ahead of me received an order from law enforcement to exit due to a rapidly approaching fire. They were advised to flee towards the sea for safety.

Currently residing in North Hollywood, Baldwin is temporarily living with a good friend. She shared with DailyMail.com that her feline companion, Kitty, has been adapting well to their new surroundings, as they often journey together when Baldwin films on location for a TV series or movie.

In 2025, a promising young actress will feature in not one but two upcoming movies. One of these is “Kaitlyn’s Chance,” where she’ll share the screen with Sean Patrick Flannery, Jennifer Taylor, and Jamie King.

Currently, she’s grateful for Kitty’s wellbeing and has admired the pet’s strength: ‘Kitty has survived two natural disasters. I first took her in after providing foster care to a family impacted by Hurricane Maria in 2017.’

Today, I’m feeling quite worn-out. It seems as though I was involved in a severe accident, being struck by a bus not once, but thrice. Yesterday, I ended up with such an excessive amount of soot on my face that I resembled the characters from Mad Max, straight out of the movie set.

I’m experiencing some discomfort with my chest and throat, but they’re just minor issues. What truly matters is that I’m grateful to be here, and it brings me immense joy knowing that both my father and my beloved feline companion are safe and sound.

The Palisades fire ignited following the commencement of a severe Santa Ana windstorm on Tuesday, which the National Weather Service had cautioned might pose a significant threat to life and was the most intense to strike Southern California in over a decade.

From the initial fire, multiple blazes broke out in the neighborhoods of Altadena and Sylmar. 

Essential evacuation orders have been issued extensively along the Pacific Coast, reaching as far inland as Pasadena, and overburdened fire departments in Los Angeles are asking retired or off-duty firefighters to lend a hand with their rescue operations.

Stranded vehicles obstructing emergency responders from reaching disaster-stricken zones necessitated the deployment of a bulldozer, while water sources for firefighting ran out – these are among the hurdles that firefighters are encountering right now.

Two people have been reported dead and thousands of structures destroyed in the raging fires.
