Hogwarts Legacy 2 Was Confirmed A While Back
The announcement of Hogwarts Legacy 2 in September 2024 wasn’t unexpected, given how successful the first game was – it was the best-selling game of 2023. Despite some controversy and even though some players wanted more content after finishing the main story, the game proved incredibly popular with Harry Potter fans, selling millions of copies. This makes the announcement of a sequel particularly exciting for players.
According to WB Interactive president David Haddad in a 2025 interview, plans for a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy are well underway, but are currently linked to the new Harry Potter TV series coming to HBO. That series, scheduled to premiere in 2027, will retell the story of the original books and films. It appears Avalanche Software intends to align the storyline of Hogwarts Legacy 2 with the events of the HBO Harry Potter series.
Haddad mentioned that the rest of the company is eager to see the impact of their work on Hogwarts Legacy. Variety reports that the games team is collaborating with Warner Bros. Television to ensure the story of the Hogwarts Legacy sequel aligns with the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO, coordinating major plot points between the two.
Gamers Aren’t Convinced By Hogwarts Legacy 2 Plans
Fans have been buzzing for months about plans to connect the storylines across different Harry Potter projects. The big question is how much these connections will impact the overall narrative, especially considering the events of Hogwarts Legacy take place 100 years before the main series. It’s still unclear how everything will fit together, but people on the r/HarryPotterGame subreddit are already debating the possibilities.
I was scrolling through the comments, and the top one really hit home – someone said they loved that this game felt unique, but they’re worried Warner Bros. is going to mess it all up. Another player, DALTT, made a great point: they really hope the game doesn’t just retell the story from the books or show. They’re cool with connections to the lore – like, maybe a storyline inspired by Chamber of Secrets, or even exploring Tom Riddle’s backstory in the 1940s and playing as a hero against him.
