OG Maco is dead at 32: Rapper had been in a coma for two weeks after gunshot to the head

As a dedicated follower of hip-hop music, I find myself deeply saddened by the untimely demise of OG Maco at just 32 years old. His life was a rollercoaster ride filled with ups and downs, but his resilience and creativity shone through in every aspect.

OG Maco had died at the age of 32.

On Thursday evening, the rapper known as Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., tragically passed away at a hospital in Los Angeles, according to reports from TMZ made the next day.

In his last moments, it’s said that Maco, who was once known as Maco Mattox and Maco Curry, was surrounded by his loved ones.

Since December 12, he’s been admitted to the hospital in a coma due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, which appears to be self-inflicted.

According to reports, Maco’s health has taken a turn for the worse, and unfortunately, medical professionals couldn’t prevent his demise.

Later on Friday, his family shared a somber statement about his death to his Instagram account.

The rapper’s life was admired as an embodiment of tenacity, imagination, and limitless affection. They praised him for making a significant difference in numerous lives through his music, and acknowledged the enduring effect he had.

As we mourn such a great loss, we also honor the exceptional life he led – a life that will undoubtedly keep inspiring and lifting up many more. The impact of ‘Maco’, not just as an artist, but as a remarkable individual, will always be deeply engraved in our hearts.

They asked friends and followers to express their sympathies or reach out to Maco’s family through his social media platform, and they expressed gratitude towards his well-wishers.

To all of Maco’s admirers, acquaintances, and well-wishers: A heartfelt thank you for staying by his side during his incredible journey. Today, we honor a life that was exceptional in every way, as expressed by his family with their message of ‘love and gratitude.’

It is said that Maco’s loved ones traveled to Los Angeles to be by his side during his last moments, and it was reported that they were deeply saddened by his passing.

Reportedly, as mentioned by TMZ, the doctors were unable to conduct a comprehensive brain scan while the rapper was in the hospital. This could have provided more precision in addressing his injuries.

Earlier this month, Maco, famously recognized for his 2014 hit “U Guessed It,” had to be taken to the hospital following an incident where police were called due to a 911 call, and they found him around 10 a.m. in a critical situation.

The emergency line had reportedly been called after a neighbor heard a gunshot from Maco’s home.

A firearm was allegedly discovered near Maco, who was taken to surgery shortly after arriving at the hospital.

As a leading voice in lifestyle trends, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined forces with Quality Control Music, an influential Atlanta-based record label established back in 2013. This powerhouse had strategic partnerships with Capitol Records from 2017 to 2020, and more recently, with the iconic Motown Records.

Quality Control Music (QC) boasts an impressive lineup of musicians, such as Migos, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, and previously held a management contract for Cardi B.

The label was bought last year by Hybe America — which is run by CEO Scooter Braun — for a reported $300 million.

As a native of College Park, Georgia, I catapulted into the limelight in 2014 with my hit single “U Guessed It.” The track gained massive popularity, particularly with a remix featuring none other than 2 Chainz. This collaboration played a significant role in securing me a record deal with QC, marking a pivotal moment in my music career.

He was honored as one of XXL Magazine’s 2015 Freshman Class of rappers, but accidents and health issues created major obstacles to continued success.

Back in July 2016, Maco was extremely close to losing his life due to a severe car accident that resulted in multiple skull fractures and a broken vertebra.

In a recent social media post, I shared my experience of sustaining a fractured orbital bone, which shields the eye. Although it’s hard to tell from the images I posted later, the injury was quite severe. At this point, I can’t say for certain if full functionality has been restored to the affected eye.

In 2019, he encountered a significant setback due to an infection called necrotizing fascitis, which is often referred to as a “flesh-consuming bacterial infection.

In a video, Maco disclosed that the affliction had given him noticeable scars on his forehead and cheek area.

It seems he was battling depression after falling ill, but there’s uncertainty about whether he experienced this mental health issue before his serious wounds.
