Davina McCall reveals her final words before being put to sleep for brain tumour operation as she shares more details about 'worrying' surgery

As a fellow human being who has faced health challenges myself, I can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions Davina McCall must be experiencing right now. Her bravery and resilience are truly inspiring. It’s heartening to see her partner, Michael, by her side, offering comfort and support during this difficult time.

Davina McCall has shared what she uttered just before going under anesthesia for her brain tumor surgery.

On Friday, the 57-year-old TV host disclosed that earlier in the day, she would undergo a procedure to excise an unusual, albeit non-cancerous, colloid cyst – a type of growth that impacts merely three individuals out of every million.

In the most recent installment of her “Making The Cut” podcast, recorded just two days prior to her surgery, she disclosed additional insights about the operation, admitting that she felt ‘anxious’ and found it all to be quite ‘overwhelming’.

Accompanied by her partner Michael Douglas, she elaborated: “I can only say that I’ve picked a fantastic surgeon, and I wholeheartedly trust him.

I plan to hand over the steering control to him, buckle up in the passenger seat, and sit back to enjoy the journey.

Just before they administer the anesthesia (and it’s quite soothing, I must add), I plan to establish a focus and I will utter, “love, love, love, everywhere.

In another part of our conversation, Davina admitted that she had been unintentionally overlooking the approaching surgery and had buried her concerns after discovering she had a colloid cyst following a routine health examination.

Expressing her astonishment upon receiving the news, she admitted, “I walked into that health screening full of confidence. After all, I’m the fitness enthusiast, yet I left with a diagnosis of a benign brain tumor.

Davina continued, “I tended to ignore it a bit since they told me it was a colloid cyst, which can grow at times, stay the same for years, or not grow at all.

Initially, I figured I didn’t have to take any action; another scan would suffice. However, someone contacted me to set up an appointment with a neurosurgeon, which instantly made me think, “That doesn’t seem promising!

‘So I went to talk to this person and he showed me my brain which blew my mind, weirdest thing ever. He pointed it out to me, it’s right in the middle of my brain.’

Davina admitted that she struggled to grasp the explanations given by the neurosurgeons, so she sought guidance and counsel from her personal physician and a friend who previously underwent treatment for a brain tumor.

Davina disclosed that removing the cyst could pose risks to her short-term memory, explaining: “I might ask you ‘How is your day going?’ or something similar, even though I’ve just talked to you. You see, I’m menopausal, and my short-term memory isn’t the best it can be under normal circumstances.

Indeed, I’ve come to understand that when my short-term memory falters, there are strategies I can employ to improve the situation. I’m not one to back down; instead, I rise to the challenge.

She joked about her craniotomy, saying, “Michael suggested that when they remove a piece of my skull, there would be unicorns, balloons, and fireworks appearing… but if they went a little further, they’d find a portrait of him without any clothes on!

Despite my efforts to maintain an upbeat demeanor, I couldn’t help but confess that I had been harboring concerns about the upcoming surgery.

She mentioned that she preferred to keep things calm and focused on her children’s wellbeing, which is why she decided to withhold the pre-recorded news until she was safely in the operating theatre.

Experiencing something as difficult as this already feels overwhelming, but the added concern from strangers only makes it more stressful. Frankly, I don’t require additional worry from others. It’s an incredibly taxing situation, truly exhausting.

‘I’m putting my phone down, no social media for a couple of weeks.’

In order to explain her decision to disclose details about her surgery, Davina added, ‘I understand that I’m recognized, so if I don’t share the truth and vanish for a couple of weeks, people will begin to speculate and they’ll share their own version of events.’

‘I’d much rather they have something from my mouth.’

As I prepare to step away for a couple of months to focus on my recovery, I feel compelled to assure everyone that I am in exceptionally capable hands. Please rest assured, my dear friends and supporters, that there is no need for concern regarding my well-being.

I have a strong bond with Michael, my children are fantastic, handling everything admirably, and I’m fortunate to have some wonderful friends by my side. There are many individuals who are keeping a watchful eye on me.

After having a two-month break, I’ve amassed plenty of movie and book suggestions, I plan to master playing a song for Michael, and I’m all geared up now.

In the end, I invited my followers to pay attention to my partner, someone I’ve shared the last five years with.

‘Will all of you look after Michael?’ she asked. ‘If you see him, give him a hug.’

Last week, Davina told fans she was having brain surgery.

The presenter said she received the diagnosis by chance after booking in for a ‘health scan’.

A colloid cyst is a slow-growing tumour typically found near the center of the brain. The benign growth contains gelatinous material.

They are often asymptomatic and found incidentally during imaging tests.

Should symptoms arise as the tumor expands, they often involve intense headaches, particularly when waking up in the morning, feelings of nausea, and impaired vision clarity. Other significant indicators may include dizziness (vertigo) and double vision.

Most patients present with headaches, although other symptoms including vertigo, memory problems and double vision can occur.

In larger sizes, a colloid cyst can block the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain, potentially causing a significantly increased risk of abrupt or sudden demise.

She said: ‘I was offered a health scan which I thought I was going to ace but it turned out I had benign brain tumour which is very rare, three in a million.

As a conscientious observer, I temporarily avoided delving too deeply into certain matters, sought advice from a handful of esteemed neurosurgeons, gathered numerous viewpoints, and ultimately recognized the necessity for me to confront and address the issue at hand.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share some personal advice regarding a matter that’s important for everyone’s wellbeing. I’ve recently discovered something rather large – 14mm wide, to be exact. Given its size, it’s recommended for my health that it should be extracted. If left unattended, it might continue to grow and could potentially lead to complications. Therefore, I’m taking proactive steps to have it removed.

She added: ‘Say a prayer for me. I’m in good spirits.’

Davina shared that, although there wasn’t an imminent danger, the physicians expressed their worries that the tumor might expand further and lead to potential issues or complications.

She revealed she had been feeling ‘up and down’ and explained she would be in hospital for at least nine days before coming home.

The presenter’s partner revealed on Tuesday a huge update that she was now out of intensive care.

He wrote on her Instagram: ‘Update folks. Thanks so much to all the well wishers. She really has made an enormous leap forward in the last 24 hours.

‘She is out of ICU She is ‘loving awareness’. Thank you xx Michael.’

The grid post then read: ‘Update – Mega progress these last 24 hours. Massive relief to see some light breaking through. Thanks for all the good vibes coming in from all angles. Up and Up.’
