‘Am I a monster?’: Disgraced CS2 caster Maniac avoids apology in ‘narcissistic’ update video

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed the highs and lows of the gaming community. The latest saga involving CS2 caster Maniac has left me more bewildered than a noob trying to navigate a complex map for the first time.

The host and commentator speaks out after months of silence — but not an apology was heard.

In a new turn of events, Mathieu “Maniac” Quiquerez, the disgraced ex-host and commentator from Counter-Strike, is once more facing criticism after a video he shared on his X/Twitter account yesterday sparked controversy.

The nearly eight-minute long video presents the commentator discussing his life’s developments after allegations of sexual assault surfaced in early September. In response to these initial claims, Maniac promised a video where he would acknowledge his errors, offer sincere apologies, and reveal his authentic self.

The video was received over the weekend, however, it seems that the community has not yet shown signs of granting forgiveness to the previous presenter.

In the video, Maniac admitted that he was overwhelmed and found it difficult to respond or manage the accusations when they first arose, which is why his initial statement seemed rushed. He explained that he experienced intense, uncontrollable emotions, leading him to question his identity, asking himself “Am I a monster? Is this who I truly am?

He continued trying to clarify his thought process behind his actions and shared his internal thoughts during the upcoming months, particularly after being removed from a live ESL CS2 broadcast when the accusations became public. “I firmly believe I am not at an ending point, it’s a daily adventure that I plan on continuing now that I’ve made this new turn,” he stated.

He expressed uncertainty about his continued involvement in the Counter-Strike world, but made it clear that he remains deeply passionate about the game. Regardless of how this may manifest in the future, one thing is certain: his affection for the game remains strong and he has no intention of letting go of it.

Despite the broader public expressing skepticism, they felt that an apology was conspicuously absent from his eight-minute video update. One individual on Reddit put it this way: “How could he release an eight-minute video without ever genuinely apologizing to the victims, or at least acknowledging and countering their claims if he doesn’t view them as valid?” However, Maniac had stated that he would include a lengthy apology in this video, but no such apology was apparent in the eight-minute presentation.

Others thought the video was purely self-centered, lacking any apology, focusing solely on himself, and ending with an expression of affection for the game and a plea to be welcomed back by the community with puppy-like eagerness. In essence, it displayed no signs of introspection, but rather full narcissism. It would be best if they kept their distance, appreciate it.

It appears that Maniac himself has indicated he won’t be joining any upcoming CS2 events in the near future. However, considering the public response to today’s video and the organizers’ attempts to disassociate from the Swiss commentator, it seems likely that Maniac will continue to be excluded from the CS2 talent pool for a while longer.
