Gary Barlow is dwarfed by best friend musician Eliot Kennedy as the pair strip off and share a boozy bath on the Take That star’s wine tour series
As a long-time admirer of Gary Barlow’s musical prowess and now his adventurous spirit, I must say this new wine tour series is an absolute delight to witness! The camaraderie between Gary and his friends, the breathtaking landscapes of South Africa, and the tantalizing food experiences are truly captivating.
In simpler terms, Gary Barlow and his close friend Eliot Kennedy appeared considerably smaller during their joint, alcohol-infused bath scene in Franschhoek, which was part of Gary’s new wine-related show.
The Take That star, 53, travelled to Cape Town with his musician pal, 55, for his new ITV series about wine, called Gary Barlow’s Wine Tour: South Africa.
In his latest TV show, Gary spends time among vineyards, savoring delicious meals and grilling South African barbecues with friends such as Ben Shephard from This Morning, singers Mica Paris and Jane McDonald, and an old acquaintance he’s known for a long time.
In an amusing moment from the show, Gary and Eliot stripped down and entered a bath together, causing quite a stir among viewers due to their noticeable size disparity.
In the latest episode, Gary and Eliot enjoyed a couple of rich glasses of red wine, relaxed in a wine-infused bath, and shared hearty laughter.
At a point that had Eliot chuckling, Gary remarked: “Ah, I truly needed to relieve myself, it definitely made things warmer. Apologies mate, it’s been quite some time.
‘It’s quite nice in here thought I must say, it’s very nice.’
During Monday’s broadcast, a viewer noted the noticeable size discrepancy between Gary and Eliot when they both entered the bathtub.
‘Gary Barlow’s best mate is scared, he doesn’t know why he’s so big,’ they wrote.
According to Gary, the series was filled with plenty of wine-drinking and hearty laughter. An unexpected revelation upon our arrival was that Michaela Strachan had resided in that place for a whopping 20 years – something I was previously unaware of.
Michaela made her TV debut with Take That’s first performance; she also appeared on The Hitman And Her to introduce us. Subsequently, she paddled a kayak with me around Seal Island.
Inquired about whether he owned a vineyard, Gary replied: “Gosh, not at all. Frankly, I’m not sure I’d enjoy that, to tell you the truth.
My role here is to offer my audience a selection of what I believe are the finest wines globally, while ensuring they’re priced affordably.
Currently, he’s expressing his enthusiasm on television. He proposed a concept, saying, “Here’s a quick idea: myself, friends, wine, cuisine, and travel.” Their response was immediate, “Let’s get started!
South Africa presents a stunning spectacle on the program, as Gary remarks: ‘Each day brought us blessings of breathtaking landscapes. The coastline is simply captivating and the vineyards hold their own charm.’
Despite some challenging instances, it was undeniable that the country presented complexities. Ultimately, our journey concluded in Johannesburg.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’ve walked through its history-steeped halls, and it exudes a sense of healing, yet there remains an undercurrent of incomplete recovery. Rest assured, we were accompanied by security throughout our journey, for safety is always paramount.
In the initial episode among five, Gary and his collaborator and songwriting partner Eliot Kennedy embark on a journey through the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Here they sample and combine wines, traverse the countryside by Jeep and electric bikes, and indulge in vinotherapy – a unique spa experience that employs grapes for body cleansing.
Additionally, they attempted a Braai-bread, a cheese toastie grilled over hot embers, as Gary mentioned: ‘We ventured to the Constantia region, known for producing my favorite dessert wines.’
‘The chef there had trained in France, lived in Asia, then moved back to South Africa. We had the simplest tuna sashimi, he put grapefruit with it, it was the most incredible thing, really delicious.’
In the second installment, Gary treads on grapes in the Cape Winelands before embarking on a ‘jazz adventure’ through the cityscape of Cape Town with Michaela.
They go home with musician Hilton Schilder to taste his Cape Malay Chicken Curry.
In a twist of unfortunate events, another kitchen didn’t work out for our chef, leaving me and Ben Shephard to don our aprons and whip up a storm in the kitchen, as I excitedly shared on the show.
It appears that we were grilling food over an open flame, which we humorously referred to as threatening it with fire. Despite not having much else going on, everyone had a great time laughing.
