Is Burgess the new detective at Intelligence in Chicago PD?

As a seasoned gamer of Chicago PD, I must say that this latest episode was as gripping as ever. The tension between Burgess and Suarez had me on the edge of my seat! But let me tell you, when it comes to loyalty and support, Ruzek takes the cake. He’s got a heart of gold, and his willingness to help Burgess climb the ranks is truly commendable.

In the sixth episode of season 12 on Chicago PD, Burgess encountered her final challenge before becoming a detective. Has she successfully completed the assessments, and has she been appointed as the new detective for Intelligence?

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Chicago PD season 12, episode 6.

To begin with, I’d like to express my appreciation for Ruzek’s supportive behavior at the beginning of the episode. While Burgess was preparing for her test, Ruzek lent a helping hand. He mentioned that he too had researched this matter, but emphasized his desire for Burgess to secure the promotion because she was taking the test. That’s what true support looks like! His selflessness is evident as he’s willing for his future wife to outrank him in rank!

Indeed, let’s return to the topic of Burgess. Undeniably, she aced the written exam. Given the promotional material, it was evident that the final challenge for her was the ride-along.

Burgess lied to protect Detective Suarez in Chicago PD

The situation became tense for Burgess and her superior, Detective Suarez, during the case. The query about appropriate actions while chasing a suspect, particularly instances where deviating from standard procedure might be justified, clearly foreshadowed a potential controversy in the upcoming episode.

In a turn of events, I found myself setting off on foot pursuing a suspicious character, leaving my comrade behind unknowingly. Unfortunately, this decision resulted in an attack on my colleague. Though she bravely fended off the assailant, that instance was when I should have addressed my partner directly, Suarez, and clarified what truly transpired.

Instead, she stood up for Suarez.

Indeed, Burgess did secure the promotion. Yet, initially, it wasn’t all positive. Suarez pointed out that Burgess is an excellent police officer but her kindness could potentially limit her advancement elsewhere. She still operates with a patrol officer’s mindset, needing a sergeant to watch over her. In truth, she would thrive better in the Intelligence department given her attitude.

Later, Suarez elaborates that Burgess resembles her in the past. He intends to relocate Burgess to the central region for a period of six months, providing her an opportunity to enhance her understanding and skill in the game.

Indeed, Burgess seems open to the task at hand. She’s prepared to take on this new responsibility, despite the fact that it requires her to part ways with a team she cherishes deeply.

It appeared that Voight agreed with the concept, but in the end, it was taken off the agenda. Deputy Chief Reid chose to transfer Burgess to Intelligence, making her the latest detective for this department. However, this isn’t something Burgess is enthusiastic about. Unfortunately, there’s no opportunity to contest this decision.

It appears this action wasn’t initiated by Voight’s instructions. Instead, he expressed his confusion about why Reid took such actions, but made it clear that there’s no such thing as a complimentary or gratis situation. In other words, what’s the actual motive behind Burgess being reassigned to Intelligence?

It appears that the situation involves Sergeant Voight. When Reid initially encountered Burgess, he made clear that she was associated with Voight. Therefore, we’re dealing with the sergeant rather than the detective. What kind of predicament is Reid likely to create for Voight, and how might he utilize Burgess in doing so?
