Keira Knightley admits she's backtracked on controversial choice to ban her daughters from watching Disney films - and reveals she apologises to her kids if she ever shouts at them

As a seasoned actress who has navigated the ever-evolving landscape of Hollywood for decades, I find myself deeply intrigued by Keira Knightley’s recent revelation about copyrighting her face. Given my own journey in this industry, I can empathize with her concerns and admire her proactive approach to safeguarding her identity from potential AI manipulation.

Keira Knightley, in a recent statement, shared that she has reconsidered her decision to restrict her daughters from watching Disney movies, which was initially met with controversy.

39-year-old actress is wedded to 41-year-old musician James Righton, and they have two children together: Edie, who’s nine, and Delilah, aged four.

2018 saw a stir when she announced her surprising move to prohibit them in films, which sparked a significant wave of opposition to this disclosure.

At the moment, she found it troubling that the female characters were consistently saved by males.

However, during an honest conversation with Vanity Fair, she admitted that the strict parenting rule she once held dear is no longer applicable.

She said: ‘Yeah, Covid ruined all my ideas. Edie, the older one, has watched everything.’

Keira mentioned that her oldest child has learned to identify and challenge the outdated gender stereotypes found in certain Disney movies.

She expressed her stance: “Indeed, she strongly supports that. She articulated a feminist perspective. She essentially asked, ‘Why is it often the princess who needs saving instead of the rescuer?’

And I responded: ‘It was written long ago, but it seems absurd to me now because it suggests self-preservation.’

As a devoted parent myself, I shared with the media my perspective on my parenting style. I expressed that I am incredibly affectionate, yet, just like any other parent, there are moments when I raise my voice.

Keira shared: ‘I do get upset at times, which can be regrettable. After all, I am human. In those moments, I might raise my voice. However, immediately following any outburst, I make sure to express my apologies. This is to demonstrate that admitting mistakes is acceptable and that our affection for each other remains unchanged.’

For the magazine shoot she looked incredible in an array of chic ensembles while posing up a storm.

In 2018, Keira made it known that she had prohibited her daughter Edie from viewing Disney’s timeless tales like Cinderella and The Little Mermaid, as the heroines in these stories are saved by males.

In an interview with Ellen, the actress clearly demonstrated her nurturing side by expressing her full support for her daughter’s future career choices, promising to stand behind her in any endeavor she pursues.

I was informed that I am not allowed to watch Cinderella. The movie portrays a woman passively waiting for a wealthy man to save her, but instead, I should focus on rescuing myself!

‘She’s also banned from watching Little Mermaid – do not give your voice up for a man! But I do love the songs’, she added.

Previously this past summer, it was disclosed that Keira, who has grappled with dyslexia since she was six years old, discovered that her child too has been identified as having this learning difficulty.

Discussing her method for remembering her lines, the actress mentioned that sight-reading remains quite challenging for her.

‘I find the material quite bouncy, but my learning approach is to record it, then play it back repeatedly until I’ve absorbed it.’

However, it turns out that we also have a child with dyslexia, and yet, she’s managing the same task just as effectively. Remarkably, her memory skills are exceptionally strong.

As a devoted parent, I myself have two precious girls who grapple with a unique challenge in their academic journey – one that impacts their ability to read, write, and spell fluently.

On Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast broadcasted on iHeart Radio, the pair chose not to disclose which child was diagnosed with a certain condition. However, they did share an interesting detail about their daughter: “She often studies books and has an incredible ability to memorize them.

Recently, Keira has been working on the upcoming Netflix thriller “Black Doves,” starring alongside Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire in the filming process.

In the bustling cityscape of London, the forthcoming Netflix suspense series titled “Black Doves” introduces us to the character of Helen Webb, portrayed by Keira Knightley. She is a woman of intelligence, practicality, and unwavering dedication – a devoted wife and mother. However, there’s an intriguing twist: she’s also a skilled undercover agent in her professional life.

For a decade, Helen has been surreptitiously leaking her politician husband’s secrets to the clandestine organisation she serves, the Black Doves, a revelation that sets the stage for a thrilling narrative.

After Jason (Andrew Koji), her covert lover, gets killed, the mysterious Reed (Sarah) summons Helen’s longtime friend to ensure her safety instead.

Samuel Young, also known as Ben, possesses a smooth demeanor and enjoys sipping champagne, yet his profession is one of an assassin. After being absent from his line of work due to a botched job resulting in devastating outcomes, he finds himself returning to a London that has progressed without him.

In the face of his own looming past, it falls upon him to safeguard Helen while she delves into the mystery of who murdered Jason and the reasons behind it.

Collectively, they embarked on a journey aimed at exposing an extensive, intricate web of secrets.

Connecting the shrouded criminal network of London to an impending international conflict, this intricate web compels one to ponder the consequences of their ethical decisions.

The Netflix series is written by Joe Barton and Keira is listed as an executive producer.

In the midst of American writers and actors going on strike in January, sparked by studios using AI instead of human actors, Keira announced her intention to protect her likeness through copyright.

Currently, actresses are focused on ensuring their voices remain healthy because they want to safeguard the voice-acting profession.

“I’m not sure where exactly it is, but I understand that we’re dealing with negotiations here. I suppose the next move might involve registering the copyright for my likeness.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but feel an intense sense of anticipation about AI’s capabilities. Yet, I can’t shake off this nagging fear that its power could lead to catastrophe. Here’s hoping our governing bodies step in and establish necessary regulations to guide its development.

Some studios such as Amazon, Netflix, and Apple are considering using artificial intelligence (AI) technology that allows for an actor’s appearance to be digitally replicated, so their image can be layered onto a stand-in performer during dangerous or complex scenes.

Actors and screenwriters in Hollywood banded together for their initial collective action in over six decades, pledging to safeguard each laborer within the industry against potential replacement by artificial intelligence.
