Karadec showed he does have a heart in High Potential season 1, episode 6

As a seasoned gamer of crime dramas, I must admit that High Potential has quickly become one of my favorites. The intricate plots and well-rounded characters make it a show worth investing time in. In particular, the latest episode (season 1, episode 6) left me with mixed feelings about our detective Karadec.

In the sixth episode of the first season of “High Potential,” Karadec and Morgan faced a challenging situation. Eventually, we witnessed a softer side of Karadec emerge, proving that compassion resides within him somewhere.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from High Potential season 1, episode 6

Karadec is a detective who strictly adheres to the rules. He prefers to work within the guidelines provided. In his view, a murderer is a murderer and there’s no room for debate. From the very beginning of season 1, episode 6 of High Potential, Karadec was clear on his course of action: he had to apprehend the individual accused of murder.

The issue arose as Sam, who served as Elaine’s assistant and discovered the body, couldn’t recall any details from the previous night. She didn’t believe she was responsible for Elaine’s death, but all indications suggested she might have been involved. However, Morgan was convinced it wasn’t Sam, yet Karadec had to consider the evidence. Merely because Sam wasn’t the culprit didn’t automatically make her innocent.

Regardless, Karadec chose to join Morgan on the investigation. Given his role, it was only natural for him to do so. Moreover, he wanted to ensure no other suspects were overlooked. However, his actions suggested a heightened level of diligence and focus, likely due to working alongside Morgan.

In many cases, police officers focus primarily on proving the guilt of their suspect, overlooking other possible suspects. However, Karadec took a different approach; he collaborated with Morgan to explore potential alternative suspects. This action demonstrates that he values Morgan’s perspective, even if it led to an unproductive investigation.

Despite the trip ultimately leading to Sam’s revelation, Morgan discovered that Elaine’s office wasn’t entirely innocent. There seemed to be something fishy about its arrangement. The mirror was misplaced, which was odd, and there was an explanation for that – it housed a hidden camera.

Karadec was the one to share the good news

Initially, Morgan disclosed the positive news about the fight being recorded, but it was Karadec who later provided Sam with another favorable update. He explicitly stated, after removing her handcuffs, that if she had a competent attorney, Sam could potentially demonstrate that the incident was an act of self-defense.

It’s more accurate to say that unintentionally, Sam pushed Elaine towards the desk. Sam didn’t realize Elaine would spin around and wind up with one of her trophies inside her.

Regarding the decision, it’s their choice between the lawyer and Sam. As for Karadec, it’s clear that he didn’t wish to accuse Sam of murder and was eager to collaborate with Morgan to establish her innocence. Despite his typical rigid perspective, he shows compassion, as evidenced by his actions.

High Potential airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up the following day with Hulu.
