David Bowie centre dedicated to the music legend confirmed to open at London's V&A museum showcasing more than 90,000 iconic items

As a lifelong fan of David Bowie, hearing about the upcoming David Bowie center at the V&A Museum in London is like a dream come true! I can still remember where I was when I first heard his music, and it’s been an integral part of my life ever since. The collection promises to be incredible, with over 90,000 iconic items from his illustrious career, including musical instruments, handwritten lyrics, costumes, and more.

A David Bowie centre dedicated to the music legend will open in September 2026.

The V&A museum in London plans to exhibit over 90,000 significant artifacts from a renowned singer’s extraordinary career, offering fans and visitors an opportunity to pay tribute.

After being diagnosed with liver cancer, the late musician passed away in January 2016, at age 69.

The special Bowie collection will include musical instruments, notebooks,  guest curators and handwritten lyrics from the star, including Fame (1975), Heroes (1977) and Ashes To Ashes (1980).

It will encompass costumes donned during his Ziggy Stardust era, as well as instances of the “cut-up” technique in writing, a method pioneered by author William Burroughs and adopted by Bowie.

In his TopMob column in 2008, Bowie described the technique he used as follows: ‘You jot down a brief paragraph or two that covers various topics, creating something like a list of story ingredients. Then, you break these sentences into sections of four to five words each, shuffle them around, and reassemble them.’

‘You can get some pretty interesting idea combinations like this. You can use them as is or, if you have a craven need to not lose control, bounce off these ideas and write whole new sections.’

Smaller screens will share the backstories of the singer’s albums and delve into his creative methods, featuring unheard projects, collaborative works, and inspirational factors.

Although fans have to hold off until September 2026 to visit the David Bowie center, visitors can look forward to exploring the V&A East Storehouse from Spring 2025.

Eight years after his passing, it has been suggested that David might make a comeback on stage using a hologram, inspired by the successful revival of ABBA through their project “ABBA Voyage.

Discussions are reportedly ongoing to develop an animated biography based on his career, and a name for this project has been officially registered under a category that encompasses characters or digital representations, as per The Sun’s report.

According to a source, it’s clear that Avatar productions are highly profitable, and the revolutionary ABBA show has demonstrated an enormous market interest.

‘Getting David on stage again in the form of a hologram would be huge.’

TopMob has contact a representative for a comment.

On the 27th of May, the Voyage virtual concert debuted at a specially designed location within London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The event was met with widespread acclaim by both fans and critics, as well as the members of ABBA themselves.

And the recreation of music legends is likely to be a huge hit with fans and the economy.

ABBA’s holographic performance, Abba Voyage, has injected approximately £322 million into the UK economy. Over a million tickets have been sold at prices as high as £181.50 each, but it remains unclear if David Bowie will make a return to dance on the streets again, which has not yet been officially confirmed.
