Billy Ray Cyrus’ ex-wife Firerose shares heartbreaking details of the day the country singer filed for divorce just hours before she was due to have breast cancer surgery

After reading about the tumultuous relationship and subsequent divorce of Billy Ray and Firerose, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for both parties involved. Divorce is never easy, especially when it happens so quickly, and the accusations of verbal and emotional abuse make this situation even more heart-wrenching.

Tish Cyrus, formerly known as Firerose, has disclosed events that indicated to her the irrevocable end of her marriage with Billy Ray Cyrus.

In August, the Australian singer (age 34) and the 63-year-old country music artist formally concluded their divorce proceedings. This came approximately three months after Billy Ray initially filed, attributing the split to ‘insurmountable disagreements’.

And Firerose claims that she got the bad news as she was home alone, waiting breast surgery. 

She says Billy Ray’s May 23 divorce filing came just one day before she was due to undergo the first of two planned surgeries for a preventive mastectomy.

She shared with Stellar Magazine this past week that they had fallen asleep side by side, but upon waking, he was no longer there.

It wasn’t unexpected for him to ignore me or give me the cold shoulder, but it was quite odd when he disappeared for an entire day. That particular evening, he failed to return home.

She went on saying: ‘I found myself all by myself on the farm, without any security lights on. I felt scared and bewildered because he wasn’t responding to my phone calls or messages, and he was aware that I had to go to the hospital the following day.’

Firerose asserted that she delayed the surgery, departed from Billy Ray’s farm the day after, and has not communicated with her former spouse since then. However, she had her mastectomy operation a month ago.

As their divorce grew more disputed, it seemed like Billy Ray questioned the validity of that assertion by requesting her medical documents through a subpoena.

In another part of the interview, the singer confessed that if given a chance, she would have ‘fled’ from the celebrity upon their initial meeting, as they delved into their stormy marital history.

As their highly publicized and increasingly contentious separation unfolded, each party levied allegations of verbal and emotional mistreatment against the other. Ultimately, in the divorce settlement, Firerose opted to forgo any monetary compensation.

In 2010, she encountered Billy Ray for the first time outside a Hollywood set where Hannah Montana was being shot. Their conversation began when she playfully petted his dog.

At the age of 22, Firerose – struggling with financial constraints as an aspiring artist – firmly asserted that she didn’t know Billy Ray. However, Billy Ray promptly volunteered to present Firerose to everyone on the filming site.

At that point, Billy Ray was wedded to his spouse Tish. Despite no incidents occurring between them for over a decade, Firerose mentioned they maintained contact.

She asserted that Billy Ray frequently spoke as though they were destined to be soulmates, yet she made it clear she had no romantic interest whatsoever.

She confessed that it was impossible for her to predict ten years ahead. Reflecting on her recent experiences, if given the chance, she’d warn her 22-year-old self to turn around and flee without looking back.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Firerose and Billy Ray fell out of contact with each other. However, Billy Ray contacted Firerose later on, reestablishing their friendship. Over time, their bond deepened into something more romantic.

As a devoted admirer, I was led to believe that he had pledged to escort me on a horseback adventure across his picturesque Nashville farm and to an enchanting beach in sunny California. However, he later contended that none of these events transpired as promised.

Firerose expressed that her family and friends distanced themselves during her romantic involvement with Billy Ray, yet she perceived his actions as ‘guarding’ or ‘caring for’ her.

She remembered: “Suddenly, instead of my usual vibrant and extroverted self, I found myself becoming quite reserved, except when we were working or in public where I would make an effort to appear overly cheerful because I was afraid of revealing how much I had retreated within myself.

In August of 2022, the couple made their happy announcement that they were engaged, and then, in October of 2023, they tied the knot on their farm. Notably, for her wedding, Firerose chose only one friend to stand by her side as part of her bridal party – her trusted hairstylist.

She asserted that all she desired was to cherish and rely on Billy Ray, however, their union fell apart in mere seven months, culminating in a divorce based on the reasons of ‘insurmountable disagreements’.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Billy Ray’s representatives for comment. 

During their highly contentious split, they repeatedly blamed each other for verbal and emotional mistreatment. Their divorce, which was marked by acrimony, was officially finalized on August 2 of the current year.

Exclusive court records obtained by DailyMail.com reveal that Firerose ended her divorce with no financial settlement, however, a source disclosed that she was content with the terms of the agreement.

In essence, the divorce settlement meant that both parties retained their original assets from the short-lived marriage.

Instead, the conditions of the contract indicated that Billy Ray consented to relinquish any rights he possessed to songwriting credits or royalties from tunes the pair composed or released as a duo, both prior to and throughout their relationship.

Yet, Billy Ray claimed that Firerose married him primarily for his surname, Cyrus, and allegedly altered her name from Hodges – the surname of her previous spouse – merely a few weeks prior to their separation.

‘I’m just very relieved,’ Billy Ray said in a statement to DailyMail.com.

‘It’s unfortunate it played out this way,’ he added. ‘Love is blind – that’s for sure.’

In July, DailyMail.com disclosed astonishing audio where Billy Ray seemed to disparage and ridicule the Australian singer.

The next day after his outburst and messages became public, Billy Ray didn’t try to refute the allegations but instead appeared to reinforce his statements further.

He admitted, “Absolutely, I found myself at a loss for solutions. Over time, it became clearer that something wasn’t right.

It’s thought that the quick wedding between Billy Ray and Firerose, following only four months after Tish initiated a divorce, may have put a strain on his relationship with his adult daughter, Miley. (age 31)

Back in 2010, Billy Ray was already married to Tish at the time they first crossed paths with Firerose. However, it wasn’t until over a decade later, when he requested her collaboration on a remake of Tanya Tucker’s “Delta Dawn,” that things started between them.

He was married to Tish for 30 years and they share three children – Miley, Braison, 30, and Noah, 24.

Besides having his own child from a past relationship, Billy Ray later took on the responsibility of raising Tish’s older kids, Brandi aged 37, and Trace who is 35, following their marriage.
