The seamless blend of past and present timelines, coupled with the enigmatic characters and their complex relationships, has me hooked.

In the narrative of Citadel: Diana, the plot unfolds across two distinct periods, as we flashback eight years to find Diana joining forces with Manticore.

How Diana joined Manticore in Citadel: Diana season 1, episode 3

The story begins eight years ago as Diana steps into her vehicle, confronting a man pointing a gun at her. It’s unclear if he realizes Diana is associated with Citadel. This individual introduces himself as Matteo, revealing that the plane crash which claimed Diana’s parents was deliberately planned by the Secret Service. They are the culprits, and it appears his group appreciates people like Diana.

She goes to the location provided by him, finding others similar to her who have been enlisted. Trained at Citadel, she’s cautious and contacts Gabriele to share her findings on Manticore. It seems that Manticore aims for global domination, which raises some concerns about its intentions. Yet, Diana has a potential advantage – an entry point into their organization.

In no time, Diana ascends to the rank of Operative at Manticore, and soon after, she’s assigned a covert operation. Gabriele advises Diana to assume her role as a Manticore agent immediately, but he stresses the need to wait for the mission details until she acquires them. Unfortunately, this triggers an unexpected ambush, though it doesn’t benefit Citadel significantly. This incident underscores the emergence of Manticore’s dominance and dismantling of Citadel. Interestingly, Manticore isn’t caught off guard by Citadel’s presence; instead, they merely express irritation that Citadel managed to locate them.

It’s natural to wonder about how Citadel chose their location, but we don’t get to witness that. Instead, an explosion at Piazza Duomo triggers Diana’s growing distrust of Manticore. Gabriele wants Diana to stay in Manticore to bring them down, but it’s making her even more vulnerable instead.

Diana’s sister wants answers

Currently, we transition to a scene featuring Diana and Sara in a car. It’s Diana’s vehicle, and she contrives a plan to administer drugs to her sister with the intention of returning her home.

The following day, Sara finds herself filled with questions and fear. She’s puzzled about why Diana didn’t reveal the truth and what transpired the night before. Unfortunately, Diana can’t offer any explanations, leaving Sara feeling bewildered and deciding to cut off contact with her sister. It’s understandable that she’s afraid – imagine being drugged and deceived by someone you trust, especially a family member. Sara is no fool; she senses something amiss, which is why she demands answers. Of course, she wants clarity!

Ettore needs to get back into Cecile’s good books in Citadel: Diana

Ettore and his family gather for a meeting regarding an issue. Following Edo’s advice, Ettore took action which provided a temporary solution, however, the German present remains silent – turns out he isn’t the same one from before. At the moment, it’s beneficial not to have detailed information, but this could potentially become a hurdle later on. In the meantime, Ettore should make the most of this opportunity.

Ettore finds himself consistently bogged down in work under Manticore France. Edo is growing tired of being micromanaged by the French authorities. He believes all Manticore territories should be treated equally, and he’s tired of following Cecile’s orders. He needs to escape to Sicily with Diana to devise a plan for developing Italy’s territory. This necessitates locating Weber, the German operative, as part of the process.

Edo consistently demonstrates leadership qualities, unlike most nepo babies who are often self-absorbed and lacking skill. However, Edo is exceptionally intelligent, continually devising methods to acquire necessary information. Admittedly, there’s a reason not to trust Diana at this moment, but he doesn’t sense any deceit from her currently. It’s important to note that Diana isn’t in a position to trust Edo either—is it possible for her to truly believe him?

At present, trust is immaterial since Diana and Edo share the same objective: reaching Weber. While Diana requires Weber to be alive, Edo remains indifferent about the outcome. This situation culminates in an exhilarating action sequence where Diana and Weber race through Sicily on motorbikes and chains.

In the episode of “Citadel: Diana”, we get a glimpse of an agent who struggles with self-control, yet it’s evident that at times, her actions are driven by her bond with the Citadel. Despite Citadel being absent, Diana remains steadfast in pursuing that mission.

Although instructed to save Weber, she ends up taking his life due to a dire situation where survival was the only option. I can’t help but sympathize with her actions. She wasn’t given a choice, but now she must provide an explanation. Edo and Diana attempt to deceive Ettore with falsified evidence of what transpired, but in this episode, Ettore demonstrates his skills and uncovers the truth.

In this installment, Edo exhibits a touch of arrogance, which adds an intriguing twist. Given his lack of experience with undercover work, it’s beneficial to witness him stumble occasionally. This plotline also develops the budding rapport between Edo and Diana. As authentic characters, they need to grapple with feelings, and we observe them forging a bond during a peaceful moment in Sicily. This scenario is ideal for providing insights into how their dynamic might evolve as Edo uncovers Diana’s secrets and Diana clarifies her objectives.

At the outset of the episode, it appeared that Ettore was still controlled by Cecile. Although there might be a larger strategy on his part to ultimately seize control of the Manticore territories, he must handle an issue within his own sphere beforehand. He doesn’t have faith in Diana, and so he chooses to apprehend her. However, we soon realize that Ettore holds considerable power, and Diana’s standing in Manticore remains precarious as long as she maintains control.
