Bobby aids Athena as she attempts to land the plane in 911 season 8, episode 3

As a fan who has been hooked on 911 since its very first episode, I can confidently say that the third and final part of season 8’s opening arc was nothing short of spectacular. The emotional depth and cinematic brilliance of this episode were unparalleled, particularly in the heart-stopping scene where Athena Grant-Nash navigated a plane filled with passengers to safety.

In the climax of the significant three-part storyline in 911‘s eighth season, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) and his wife, Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett), embarked on a heart-pounding journey that underscored the profound nature of their bond. Throughout the story, from their initial efforts to save the stranded plane to Athena releasing decades of pent-up anger, the depth of their love was evident and moving.

Initially, Athena stepped in to perform CPR on the stricken co-pilot who suffered a heart attack without warning. As fellow travelers frantically tried to keep him alive, Athena retreated to the cockpit and collaborated with Jem, an accomplished young aviation enthusiast, to navigate and safely land the aircraft.

How do Bobby and Buck help Athena and the passengers in 911?

Despite the Air Traffic Controller’s diligent efforts to assist Athena in landing the aircraft in mid-air, the plane’s inability to maneuver ruled out a safe landing at LAX, where emergency response teams from the 118 and other Los Angeles Fire Department crews were standing by to offer assistance.

While in the interim, Bobby successfully contacted Athena and kept her on the phone as he readied to clear the 110 highway for her to land the plane. Simultaneously, Buck (Oliver Stark) was busy preventing other vehicles from continuing on the highway. Bobby positioned himself atop a firetruck, anticipating Athena’s arrival.

Remarkably, it was Athena who skillfully piloted the aircraft with Jem’s assistance, ensuring the safety of every passenger aboard. This event served as a backdrop for some truly stunning cinematography, ranging from the plane passing above Buck’s head to the captivating shot of fire trucks rushing to aid and rescue the passengers.

Athena may have landed the plane, but she still has a job to do involving Dennis

That hour of television was incredibly engaging and demonstrated just how far Bobby would go to aid Athena. A notable instance was when FBI agents sought Dennis, and Bobby cleverly devised a distraction by suggesting they were heading to the hospital. In reality, they led them to an airport parking garage. Hidden in a sleek red automobile was Fulton’s little black book.

Regrettably, one of the agents trailed them, a person Athena thought was mentioned in the book they uncovered. This individual aimed to shoot Bobby, but Dennis stepped in between. Luckily, the homemade shiv Dennis had created to assist a passenger proved useful once more, preventing the agent from attempting another shot at them.

In the end, Athena conveyed to Dennis that he wasn’t required to turn down the proposition. He had stated that he would accept it only if she approved. Now, she chose not to cling onto the pain from her past with her former fiancé Emmett. It was a profound instance of development for Athena as she observed him reconnect with his family.

Honorable mentions

  • Even though the bees have appeared to disperse, we have to admit we’d still love to at least get another mention of them later. However, no one has to worry about being stung.
  • Hen, Chimney, and Eddie just patiently waiting for the plane. They were the epitome of confusion in not knowing what was happening since Buck didn’t have a radio on him.
  • Chimney makes a quip about the situation with Buck and Gerrard. He briefly brought it up to Bobby, but then decided against telling him what happened. We imagine he’s having too much fun keeping that tidbit to himself!
  • The nod to Oliver Stark constantly surprising fans over being British. We love a show going meta in their own show also going meta in real life.
  • That awkward hug between Buck and Gerrard. We wonder if Buck is beginning to regret ever saving him. Would being suspended from work be preferable? We have a feeling Buck feels that it would be.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, Season 8 is kicking things up a notch! Can’t wait to unravel the mysteries and witness the adventures of my favorite characters as the story unfolds!
