Replacement for sacked Channel Seven anchor Sharyn Ghidella announced – as loyal fans switch over to her new bulletin at Channel Ten
As a longtime viewer of local news, I am thrilled to see familiar faces like Sharyn and Liz gracing our screens once again. Their move to Channel 10 feels like a homecoming, and it’s heartening to know that we will be getting more local news for Queenslanders.
Ever since my cherished idol, Sharyn Ghidella, bid farewell from Channel Seven amidst the July controversy, I’ve been on pins and needles, waiting for the news about her replacement. And now, at last, the announcement has been made!
On Friday, it was announced that Sarah Greenhalgh will take over as a co-anchor for the main 6pm news broadcast on 7News Brisbane.
Starting from October 21, Monday, esteemed journalist Greenhalgh, renowned for her global conflict reporting, will team up with Max Futcher on our main news broadcast.
‘Coming home to my original 7News family is a huge thrill,’ Greenhalgh said in a statement.
Her new co-star Futcher chimed in: ‘I can’t wait for our viewers to get to know Sarah too, as we share the news that matters to them each weeknight’.
As an ardent admirer, let me tell you, I’ve always been captivated by Greenhalgh! This outstanding journalist has bagged the prestigious Walkley and Kennedy Awards, not to mention being a former member of the 7News Spotlight investigative team. Simply put, they’re one of the most respected names in journalism today!
Meanwhile, Ghidella returned to the radio waves in September, launching her fresh role at Channel 10 news.
7News, the network where the news presenter based in Queensland has been working for about 17 years, let him go earlier this year as part of a series of layoffs affecting media jobs. (103 words)

A fan expressed delight at having Sharyn Ghidella returning as the news reader again. Now, they’re tuning into Ten News for their daily news fix.

People who previously watched Channel 7 also complimented Liz Cantor, stating that they now prefer Channel 10.
Liz confirmed her shock resignation from Seven earlier this month after 17 years with the network, revealing she is moving over to its rival Network 10.
Furthermore, Sharyn’s transition to the network will mark the return of the 10 News First program to its Brisbane studios following several years of broadcasting from Sydney.
Sharyn referred to her latest employment opportunity at Network 10 as a “complete loop” since she is going back to where she started her metropolitan news journey with them, way back in 1990.
‘I wonder if my security tag still works,’ she joked in a video announcing the news.
‘Returning to 10 News First feels like coming home,’ the veteran broadcaster added in a statement.
Back in the early ’90s, Network 10 was where I got my initial major opportunity. Now, returning here to provide local news for the people of Queensland feels incredibly thrilling.
At the age of 24, she was employed by the newsroom of Brisbane’s Channel 10 as a mobile reporter and presenter for updates.
In 1992, Sharyn joined Sydney’s Nine Network and frequently appeared as a news anchor on the Today Show. Later, in 2007, she switched to the Seven Network.
Since 2013, she has been delivering the Brisbane news broadcast, but her position was terminated last month after a total of 17 years in that role.
As a lifestyle expert, I found myself sharing some unexpected news recently. In a heartfelt Facebook post, I shared my journey of discovering that my position was no longer needed, an unfortunate revelation that came to me during a much-needed visit to the hair salon.
After several tense weeks marked by job reductions, she criticized the struggling network for placing more importance on novelty features such as astrology predictions instead of retaining experienced employees.
In her years of working in television, it rarely happens that a single day passes without the anticipation of a familiar tap on the shoulder. Finally, after 38 years, the long-awaited tap on the shoulder that I’ve grown accustomed to during my career has arrived. This is where she started off.
‘Things didn’t turn out as planned at Channel Seven. While I was getting a haircut for work, I received a phone call telling me that, after 17 years with the network, it was time for me to move on.’
She shared that her latest stint at the network had been quite ‘unpleasant’, and she was looking forward to leaving.
In her writing, she expressed a mix of sadness and relief. Over the past few weeks on television, unfortunately, things have taken a gloomy turn.
A significant number of skilled, faithful, and committed workers have been let go, apparently as part of a prolonged strategy to gradually reduce surplus inventory that’s considered unnecessary. This seems like a drawn-out process of gradually removing the Band-Aid instead of doing it quickly.
These individuals excel as top-tier content creators within their industry. Sadly, it’s been quite disheartening watching them.
