Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas reveals why she hasn't spent a penny of her £250,000 prize money

As I delve deeper into the captivating world of musical theatre, it’s impossible not to be enamored by the legendary Formlene Phillips. Her aura is nothing short of divine, and her presence in the industry is unparalleled. I can only aspire to have even a fraction of her career success.

Sydnie Christmas disclosed that she hasn’t used a single pound of her £250,000 winnings so far, planning instead to pass it on to any potential offspring she may have in the future or use it for purchasing a home.

The 29-year-old winner of the seventeenth season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2024, the singer, acknowledged that she saved every penny of the prize money in a savings account.

Sydnie shared that her lifelong dream is to achieve stability. To accomplish this, she’s been setting money aside in a savings account with the aim of purchasing a home someday.

What I’ve always yearned for is a sense of stability, the ability to progress in life, and eventually start a family. Fortunately, it seems that this dream of mine has come true.

She continued: ‘I wanted to use it in the right way. So no, I haven’t touched that yet. But one day, it will be for buying a house.’

In the days ahead, as my income grows and opportunities unfold, I look forward to indulging in a luxurious treat. For now, though, I’m content with the simple joy of putting in hard work each day.

In that captivating chat, I couldn’t help but ask Sydnie about her extraordinary journey since triumphing in the talent show.

Sydnie said: ‘It’s been crazy! But it’s been really fun.’

I’ve completed work on the album, which is quite exciting. I’ve played at some fantastic shows, with a great crowd in attendance.

The Blackpool Illuminations were absolutely breathtaking! I’ve heard varying numbers, some saying 80,000 and others claiming 100,000 attendees, but regardless of the exact number, it was beyond description – an unforgettable experience!

Speaking about the release of her first album, “My Way,” last month, Sydnie expressed: “I’m feeling a bit anxious, but this is something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s fantastic, truly fantastic. I can’t wait to see how things unfold.

The star disclosed that it’s quite challenging to reach music tycoon Simon Cowell, age 64, as she shared this when asked if either him or Amanda Holden, aged 53, had contacted them prior to her album release.

She mentioned that it’s quite challenging to reach Simon. I’ve been told he doesn’t own a phone, which I find quite smart, and I can see his reasoning behind not having one.

“He’s incredibly occupied, yet his backing throughout the performance felt genuinely heartwarming. The final message I received from him was simply a sense of pride and encouragement to pursue my dreams, as he believes in my potential.

I’ve been absolutely captivated by the wisdom Simon shared with me – it’s incredibly empowering! Essentially, he told me that I hold the key to pursuing my desires, and that’s a mind-blowing realization. In essence, I get to decide my own path, which is truly inspiring.

Additionally, she mentioned that she deeply admires Arlene Phillips, who is 81 years old, and considers her a ‘divinity’ within the realm of musical theater.

She said: ‘I love Arlene. We go back in the Starlight days, me and Arlene Phillips. She knows I am absolutely obsessed with her and I idolise the ground that she walks on.’

In creating this show, we’ve invested considerable effort during rehearsals and various other stages. To me, Arlene is akin to a demi-god, or even a full god. In the realm of musical theater, she undoubtedly holds the highest position of authority.

‘Having Arlene as an ally means success is within reach. Knowing that I made her proud, I’m overjoyed.’

Sydnie mentioned, “We talked on the phone recently as I sought her guidance.

Arlene, I find myself in a bit of a pickle as I’m not familiar with this part of the industry and it’s all quite overpowering for me, so could you lend a hand?

Fortunately, Arlene has experience in various aspects of the industry. It was fortunate for me that she found time to speak with me for an hour, and her call certainly made me feel more relaxed. She truly is kind-hearted and compassionate.

‘If I have half the career that Arlene has got, I’m a very happy woman.’

In the course of the interview, it was disclosed that she plans to travel to Los Angeles within three weeks to perform at the Hollywood Bowl, as part of celebrations marking David Foster’s 75th birthday.

Sharing her busy schedule, Sydnie said: ‘I’m singing for David Foster’s 75th birthday.’

‘I’ve got the panto. I’ve also got the Royal Variety Show in November as well. Panto in December and then tour in February.’

She continued: ‘I’ve never done panto so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s at the Orchard West in Dartford near my home.’

“I plan on returning home for Christmas, where I’d like to express my gratitude to the local community members who supported my election. It will be enjoyable to share some live moments with everyone.

The star confessed that participating in auditions for the panto was exhausting, as she disclosed her role.

She said: ‘(I’m playing) Fairy Christmas in Sleeping Beauty. I’d never been booked for it.’

As a child, I used to attend pantomime performances, but the last time I went to a pantomime (approximately 25 years ago) left me puzzled.

‘Many people may not fully appreciate the ongoing effort required for continuous auditions. It can be exhausting, and sometimes it feels disheartening to invest a lot of energy only to face rejection.’

‘But you have to give your best in everything. Right now, I’m counting my lucky stars.’

After Sydnie’s appearance on This Morning earlier this month, it emerged that producers had to locate her and persuade her to take the offered payment.

Sydnie chuckled while narrating the tale to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, expressing that she was swamped back then because her life experienced a rapid acceleration following her victory in the contest.
