The Rings of Power star Cynthia Addai-Robinson thinks Míriel will "fight from within"

As a dedicated fan who’s been following Middle-earth’s tales since I was but a hobbit-ling, I am utterly captivated by Míriel’s journey in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Cynthia Addai-Robinson‘s portrayal of this resilient queen is nothing short of extraordinary.

The second installment of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” concluded with multiple storylines veering off into thrilling fresh territories. In the island kingdom of Númenor, the newly crowned emperor Ar-Pharazôn labeled those who continued to venerate the divine Valar as heretics. Elendil, a key figure among the Faithful, swiftly departed for a more tolerant region of the island, however, not without bidding farewell to Míriel, who, according to the Faithful, remains the true queen.

Concerning Míriel, she submitted to Pharazôn’s custody. We inquired about her future from actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who portrays The Rings of Power. With the Faithful being oppressed and her incarcerated, prospects seem bleak. Could hopelessness be a possibility?

Addai-Robinson explained, ‘She’s contemplating her situation,’ rather than feeling sorry for herself or giving in to despair. Instead, he anticipates a struggle within her, given her intelligence and awareness of Pharazôn and human nature. He believes that she has a strategic mind even while chained and accused falsely.

And I was thinking about it because we don’t necessarily see it as much, but there presumably are people out there who believe that Míriel is the true leader. They witnessed the trial by the sea, they adhere to the same beliefs that she stands by…You know, she’s not alone in her fight and her belief. So I think with that understanding and knowledge, it’s really about strategy and timing, in terms of what I think would potentially lie ahead. But you know, despair…I think she despairs for Númenor. I don’t think she despairs for herself, but I think anything that she would be feeling along those lines would be about her people and their future.

Keep in mind: In the initial episodes of the series, Míriel foresaw Númenor sinking into the ocean. People versed in The Lord of the Rings lore understand that such a prediction is not trivial. There’s cause for apprehension.

It remains uncertain when or if there will be a third season of “The Rings of Power,” but it seems likely that fans won’t get new episodes until 2026. Unfortunately for Míriel, this means she’ll have to wait quite some time. In the interim, we had the opportunity to talk with several cast members about the season 2 finale.
