Footy WAG Kellie Finlayson reveals the reality of her terminal cancer in heartbreaking interview: 'I'm living on borrowed time'

As an ardent fan of Kellie Finlayson, every update about her life feels like a whirlwind of emotions. Her strength and resilience in the face of such formidable adversity is nothing short of inspiring. The way she refuses to let cancer define her life, instead choosing to thrive amidst it all, is a testament to her indomitable spirit.

28-year-old partner of AFL player Kellie Finlayson bravely shares her struggle with terminal cancer in a deeply emotional conversation on the Head Game podcast, hosted by Ant Middleton on Nova.

Despite fighting stage 4 bowel and lung cancer, a woman with one child courageously expressed her desire that her life should not solely be characterized as being defined by her illness.

Kellie expressed, “Since I’m still around, I might as well enjoy life. I feel like my time here is temporary, so I want to make the best use of it.

Kellie, partnered with Jeremy Finlyson of Port Adelaide, shared that she felt proud of her resilience in the face of cancer. She decided to tackle each day of her struggle with the disease and its symptoms without letting it overwhelm her.

‘I’m still advocating for this disease that I’m quite literally being treated for,’ she said.

I’m managing my parenting duties quite effectively. For the most part, I’m carrying out the responsibilities that one would expect from a typical parent, and I strongly believe that taking things one day at a time might not be fair to myself or my children.

It seems to me that I have a purpose for being here. Since I exist, why not truly live? I feel as though my time is limited, so I want to make every moment count.

Kellie and Jeremy recently sold their Adelaide home for a price well above their expectations.

In August, the couple announced that they were putting their property up for sale as they sought a home more suitable for providing in-home care for Kellie.

The social media influencer has been battling both bowel and lung cancer since her diagnosis in November 2021, which came shortly after the birth of their daughter Sophia.

After her stage 3 diagnosis became more severe (stage 4), she went through multiple operations and chemotherapy treatments.

In July, she announced that she would be resuming chemotherapy due to the return of her cancer growth. After ceasing conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy, she opted for more natural and alternative methods instead.

The pair successfully auctioned off their house for a whopping $915,000; the initial bid was set at $700,000, and it escalated rapidly thereafter.

The home attracted plenty of interest and was eventually sold to a local buyer.

They bought the house in May 2022 and hoped to make it their home for many years.

Kellie shared with Adelaide Now that she had been longing for a traditional home, specifically a villa featuring beautiful hardwood floors, and surprisingly, the one she found was in excellent shape,” is a natural and easy to read paraphrase of the original sentence.

We have an incredibly vast outdoor space, and our plan was to expand it further, but due to my health issues, that dream remained unrealized.

Due to Kellie’s prolonged health issue, the couple finds themselves in need of additional space for her care and are currently searching for a rental home that better suits their new requirements.

‘This was to be our forever home, but I guess life had other plans,’ Kellie said.

This January, Kellie decided to discontinue her chemotherapy and radiation sessions, instead opting for faith in natural healing methods and alternative medicines.

Sadly, the severity of her cancer battle made that impossible.

In the video she shared on TikTok, Kellie expressed her concern, saying that with cancer, particularly recurrent cancer, it tends to grow rapidly. So, if even less than a millimeter of growth is detected in scans over a few months, it indicates that the cancer is actively growing. This means we need to take immediate action.

Typically, after a meeting with my oncologist, I leave feeling reassured that we will simply monitor the situation. However, things are different today as he has shared that active intervention is necessary.

Next week, I’ll be visiting a surgeon and a radiation therapist for consultations. They will help me explore all possible treatments, which may include resuming chemotherapy.

It seems I’m among those who are fortunate as chemotherapy appears to work effectively in my case. However, it’s unfortunate that any form of chemotherapy isn’t appealing or desired.

Kellie is optimistic that she might be able to cope with her illness using treatments which could potentially extend her life for several more years.

So as the cancer remains under control, I believe I still hold a great deal of longevity within me. In fact, I can envision celebrating Sophia’s 21st birthday!” she expressed.

“I eagerly look forward to seeing her on her first day of school. Although that’s a ways off yet, it feels closer than I initially thought following the diagnosis.
