Phillip Schofield is blasted by viewers who claim he’s ‘not as remorseful as he claims’ after supposed dig at Holly Willoughby’s viral ‘are you OK’ statement
As I delve into the life story of Phil Schofield, a man who has traversed the rollercoaster of emotions, I find myself awestruck by his resilience and tenacity. His journey is a testament to the human spirit’s ability to bounce back from adversity, to learn, grow, and ultimately, to thrive.
On Monday evening, Philip Schofield made his long-awaited return to television, promising viewers an unvarnished and truthful account of his personal experiences.
However, barely moments into the premiere of his Channel 5 show, Cast Away, the presenter faced accusations of insincerity regarding his claimed remorse, following what appeared to be an indirect jab at his previous co-host on This Morning, Holly Willoughby.
In the program, Philip shares his story about leaving ITV and This Morning after hosting for 21 years, as well as his experience living independently on an idyllic island retreat near Madagascar’s shoreline.
Phillip, 62, was ousted from This Morning in May last year, after he admitted to lying about his relationship with a much younger male colleague.
Holly chose to distance herself from her previous close friend. During her carefully planned comeback on the This Morning show in June 2023, she openly shared with viewers that she had felt shattered, disappointed, and concerned.
Upon her return, I greeted her with, “Hi there! First off, how are you doing? I really hope everything’s alright. It certainly seems odd sitting here without Phil around.
In a nod to the widely recognized speech from the movie Cast Away, Philip can be observed enjoying a barbecue with his loved ones prior to departing for the island.
He gives out food to his wife Stephanie and their daughters Molly, 31, and Ruby, 28, and laughs: ‘If you’re ok, then we’re ok, and I’m ok… are you ok?’
In the recently released video, you won’t find any reference to Holly. However, keen observers swiftly picked up on what seemed like a subtle jab. One fan labeled Philip’s series as more of an “ego trip,” while another suggested that perhaps Philip isn’t as contrite as he appears to be in public.
The posts about X mentioned: “Was that a subtle jab at Holly Willoughby, Philip? Everything alright with you?; Everything alright with you… That jab from Holly!

In Holly’s original statement, she expressed that it seems unusually peculiar for her to be here without Phil, suggesting that you might also be experiencing similar feelings.
Deeply concerned, uneasy, disappointed, anxious about the welfare of everyone involved in the recent events, with a multitude of unanswered questions.
As a loyal follower, I cannot help but express my deep concern and empathy for the individual at This Morning who found themselves in a situation where they were not truthful, resulting in their resignation from ITV and stepping back from a profession they deeply cherished. It’s undeniably overwhelming to comprehend such a turn of events.
It’s just as difficult to observe the impact it has had on their emotional wellness. What seems to bring us together at this moment is a shared aspiration for recovery, aiming for the benefit and prosperity of all involved.
She expressed: “As we embark on a fresh beginning and return to the enchanting, warm atmosphere that our show offers, I hope we can draw support from one another.
With sincerity in my voice, let me express gratitude for the heartwarming messages you’ve shared. I’m also grateful for your presence today. Not just Josie, Dermot, Alison, Craig, but everyone behind the scenes of this show will consistently strive to deliver our best each day.
Philip left the nation in awe when he announced his return to television through the Channel 5 series titled “Cast Away.” In this show, he will survive alone for ten days on an idyllic isolated island.
In the initial episode, Philip shared that he had arranged all necessities for a potential suicide, but changed his mind when his oldest daughter Molly intervened and dissuaded him, following his departure from This Morning.
He said: ‘In the last eighteen months, it got as dark as it is possible to get.
A little over a year ago, I came tantalizingly close to achieving my goal. My preparations were meticulous, my setup impeccable, and I was all set to embark on this journey. It was Molly who took care of me during those critical moments.
At that moment, both Molly and Ruby were taking care of him. Molly asked him, “Can you envision the consequences if you successfully carried out this plan? Picture the aftermath, and consider the impact it might have on me if it happened under my supervision?
With barely enough, I managed to retreat from the brink of disaster. A visit to the hospital might have been inevitable, but instead, I swiftly made my way to my family’s house, securing the gates, and found safety within.
Later on, he acknowledges his deep gratitude towards his wife, Stephanie Lowe, Molly (age 31), and his youngest daughter, Ruby (age 28). He expresses that in their absence, he would not have been able to exist.
16 months ago, Schofield made a comeback on TV following an incident where he had to publicly apologize to The Mail for falsely claiming an affair with his ex-cohost from This Morning.
I too deceived ITV and my ex-co-host Holly Willoughby regarding our romantic involvement, and as a consequence, I haven’t been employed since then.
However, within the course of the program, he discusses the relationship by likening it to a massive explosion in one’s life. He explains that you are aware of causing disappointment to others and to yourself as well.
It was clearly not the right or appropriate action, and I deeply regret it. I’ve messed up, made a mistake, and unfortunately, I caused pain for those close to me.
Three years following his public announcement of being gay on “This Morning,” hosted by Holly Willoughby, Schofield confessed that he had relished the romantic experience.
He had concealed his sexuality from everyone in his family and work circle, but he now expresses great pride in disclosing the truth about himself. In his words, “I am incredibly proud of what I’ve done, and I understand that for many people, coming out is liberating. It’s a taste of freedom.
Indeed, embrace who you are and make the most of every moment – that’s essentially living your best life. However, for me, doing so late in life has brought me more distress than happiness, as I am keenly conscious of the lasting harm it may cause.
For Molly, her father coming out was a significant challenge: “When my dad came out,” she confides, “it was incredibly tough for me.” The entire family faced hardships, but primarily it affected Molly’s mother, as their lives were turned upside down. However, through open communication and time, things have become less difficult.
Despite the affair and coming out as gay, Schofield wears his wedding ring throughout the show – proving he is still married to Stephanie. During the show she breaks her silence on the scandal, hinting at her own ordeal when she says: ‘What people don’t realise is that they batter you but then there are other people affected.’
Molly, acting as her father’s press representative, commented: “We’ve witnessed him during his most difficult moments, but I’ve felt nothing but pride. It’s touching to see the affection people have for him, and losing that love is truly devastating.
She added: ‘Weirdly everything that’s happened recently has made us closer.’
Schofield conspicuously fails to bring up Ms. Willoughby or the person he previously dated, whom he entered into a confidentiality agreement with recently, in exchange for a substantial sum of money.
He will leave viewers wondering whether he is referring to Holly when he said: ‘When you throw someone under a bus, you’ve got to have a really bloody good reason to do it.’
In another instance, Schofield commented: “I mostly yearn for it, but there are parts that I truly, deeply, profoundly dislike. It teaches you a great deal about individuals. I don’t long for that aspect.
After leaving television, Schofield admits that he has been spending many days in bed, often watching the news with a sense of detachment or bewilderment.
Regarding how he feels about coming back into the spotlight, Schofield openly states that he won’t be seeking much empathy. He emphasizes, “This isn’t about feeling sorry for myself.” In his own words, “I don’t believe I have the entitlement to do so. I don’t feel I deserve a ‘poor me.’
