Nancy makes it out alive and gets her revenge on her attackers in Last Straw
In an 81-minute film, we discover the identities of the masked invaders quite quickly. The story begins with Nancy learning she’s pregnant and subsequently sharing this news with her closest friend, Tabitha. Later, Nancy goes to work at her father’s diner, Fat Bottoms Bistro, where she serves as a waitress.
At first, Nancy assumed she was scheduled for a typical workday; however, she learns from her father that due to some employees being absent, she’d be working the night shift instead. The only colleague sharing this duty with her is Jake, an enigmatic individual who carries a murky past and holds the title of diner cook. It’s no secret that Nancy and Jake don’t see eye-to-eye.
As the sun sets, workers wrap up their duties and depart for the day, among them Bobby, who has feelings for Nancy. However, before they can go, Nancy summons them for a crucial conversation. During this talk, Jake becomes confrontational with Nancy, resulting in his termination. Now, only Nancy remains to work the night shift, and that’s when events take an unexpected turn.
Following a vigorous dance workout in the deserted eatery, Nancy suddenly becomes sick and vomits profusely across the diner’s floors. Cleaning up her mess, she is disturbed by a band of masked attackers tapping on the diner walls. In distress, Nancy reaches out to the police for aid, but one eventually arrives only to be slain by one of the masked invaders. Fearing for her life, Nancy flees and seeks refuge in a nearby structure. While hiding, she spots Bobby pedaling his bike past the fallen cop on the ground.
Initially concealed, she dashes towards Bobby and both sprint back into the restaurant. However, the masked interlopers manage to apprehend them eventually. Luckily, Nancy manages an escape, darting out of the restaurant once more. As a pursuer advances upon her, Nancy spins around and impales them with a blade. This action startles the other assailants, causing them to retreat from the restaurant, even Bobby. This unexpected behavior leaves Nancy perplexed.
After concealing their identities, the assailants were found out to be Nancy’s colleagues – Jake, Coop, and Petey. Tragically, it was Petey who Nancy had fatally stabbed earlier. They orchestrated these frightening events as a group, with an intent to scare Nancy. However, it seems that Jake may have harbored a hidden purpose. The film then rewinds to the moment immediately following Jake’s termination from work. This flashback serves to show the audience how Jake, Petey, Coop, and Bobby collaborated on the plan to torment Nancy.
Prior to recruiting Coop and Bobby into his malevolent scheme, Jake had previously tormented a gang of mischievous teenagers. It was these very same troublemakers who were pestering Nancy at the diner right at the start of the movie. In fact, he went as far as to murder two of them, taking their masks and bicycles in the process. At this juncture in the film, it’s clear that Jake is mentally disturbed. His actions against the teens were driven by his delusional belief that they were responsible for him losing his job at the diner.
Initially, he links up with Bobby, Coop, and later, Petey. He persuades them to participate in bullying Nancy at a restaurant. They don their masks, mount their motorcycles, and travel towards the eatery. However, their scheme crumbles when Jake slaughters a police officer. From that point onwards, Jake faces more trouble as his sibling Petey succumbs to fatal stab wounds inflicted by Nancy.
This situation results in a game of cat-and-mouse, taking place both within and near the diner. Bobby, Coop, and Nancy suffer fatal or severe injuries respectively, as Jake inflicts multiple stab wounds on Nancy’s abdomen. Convinced she is deceased, Jake departs from the diner and heads back home. On his journey, he contacts the authorities to report a series of murders at the diner, neglecting to mention that he himself was responsible for the violence.
In Jake’s haste to leave town with his packed bag, an unexpected twist unfolds: Nancy, who was believed to be deceased, is very much alive. The following morning, she stirs in a diner and undoes her shirt. To safeguard herself from a near-fatal stabbing, she had concealed her upper body with raw meat. Regrettably, the meat didn’t offer complete protection for Nancy’s entire physique.
In a twist of events, Nancy rises from the floor of the diner, snatches the police car keys, and heads towards Jake’s residence with vengeance on her mind. She strategically places a confusing sticker on his doorbell that keeps it ringing continuously. Perplexed, Jake steps out to see who’s there, noticing the odd sticker. Unbeknownst to him, Nancy has already sneaked into his house and conceals herself with a knife in hand behind him. As Jake ponders the sticker, Nancy leaps out and stabs him in the neck. With blood streaming from his neck wound, Jake staggers onto his porch and collapses.
I abandon my foe to his fate, limping away down the road. After what feels like miles, my legs give way, and I collapse onto the ground. Exhausted beyond belief, I gaze up at the heavens. Suddenly, a car appears, and my father, Edward, steps out to save me.
